The weather delay that ruined pregame. I don't know who made the call to disrupt pregame, whether it was LSU alone, LSU under tremendous pressure from ESPN, or ESPN without even consulting LSU. Either way, I don't care. It is absolutely unacceptable and it had better not happen again. What would it have hurt to delay the start of the game twenty minutes and just say, "Our apologies to our national television audience, the LSU/Auburn game is currently in a weather delay. Until we're ready to kick off there, we will bring you bonus coverage of (insert random game here)? What would it have hurt to just let us go through our presentation? But I suppose starting on time was the end all, be all thought on everyone's mind. I'm just a little upset because my whole family came down for the game and, while the game was thoroughly enjoyable, I can't help but think that they missed part of "the Tiger Stadium experience." Also, I sat amongst Auburn fans, and I am happy to report that there were NO incidents of fan misbehavior against Auburn fans by our own, nor the other way around. I did see a little LSU-on-LSU misbehavior though when a couple at the game got in a little domestic spat in front of everybody and were escorted out of the building. And an Auburn fan took a nasty fall down the stairs and had to be carted out on a stretcher, but he was not pushed. He had a little too much to drink and lost his balance on that steep upper deck. I guess it was just that kind of night for the War Eagle Nation.
This new SEC lightning rule doesn't make a lot of practical sense. The refs cleared the field and wouldn't even permit the pregame festivities. Of course there were thousands of people in the stands. If lightning ever strikes Tiger Stadium it is likely to be a light tower or the upper deck itself. Its kind of cheesy to clear the field while thousands of people in much more danger just have to sit there and take it. Then again, if I was out there carrying a sousaphone, I might feel differently.
That did suck, but it was kind of cool to have the band play pregame as the team ran onto the field. It was different, and I really liked it. But, I still like the other way better.
hey guys, yes it was espn along with the lightening rule that made us change the pregame setup. We were not happy about not being able to do pregame and many of us wanted to scrap the halftime show for pregame, but it was just for not. I think maybe had the game been closer the directors might have gone for it. On good note though, it was cool to know that the team finally heard us play pregame while we were on the field. They don't get to hear it from the locker room so when we played it in the tunnel it was cool, and i think it helped them get pumped up again. Thanks for the concerns and we are truly sorry you missed out on the official pregame at LSU.
I am sure the story has been already told in Auburn land that this person was pushed by a LSU fan and then slip down the stairs on piss (or tripped on a corndog).
Anyone here the post-game show remarks about Wickes running two-minute drills and for the band? It was great.
NO Pregame From a TigerBand Trumpet, It was horrible we couldn't do Pregame, but the blame is entirely on ESPN considering they told us we could not perform. Our directors had to fight to let us do what we did, (form the tunnel and play the National Anthem and Pregame for the team). We were pissed...., we practice days upon days to perfect the pregame show to give the fans the best possible. The only thing fans can do here is to write ESPN with their complaints, I am..
Tiger Band = SOLID We listened to the Post Game show, and that whole Dr. Wickes taking the band through their version of the two minute pregame drill and using hoses to simulate the rain bit was priceless..... Those guys often get a little too big for their britches in dealing with some of the more mundane elements of their show, but that was legit funny...
Re: NO Pregame Writing ESPN will do nothing, they are motivated by profits and schedules, and as a fan it was a disappointment - as a business person I understand why. Here's what matters to me about the whole issue: Watching you guys run the field from end to end, and then watching y'all do Pregame from the tunnel speaks volumes about the band's necessary place in the whole Gameday experience and what it means to fans and players. I knew that Dr Wickes would make that work one way or another, and was proud to know that we would not play that game till the Drumline & Tuba's began Tiger Pregame... Just Awesome!!!
