Brett's decision is fine by me since the juvenile antics of the Rebel fans can hardly be classified as "Smack" but I'm curious. Which straw broke the camel's back? IMHO a stern warning would have accomplished the same thing, at least among TF regulars.

As for the closing of the board, I am partly to blame for that. One particular rebel visitor has been making remarks that are totally out of line and have nothing to do with talking smack about football, allegiances to schools, or anything else the board was set up for. Myself, along with a couple other of my Tiger faithful responded and things escalated to the point of absurdity.

I apologized over there for losing my temper and stooping to that level, but I see he has posted another wise reply to that post. I am sorry for losing my cool and the role I played disrupting the board for you Tiger fans.

This is not meant to stir up any further trouble, and I will not respond to any more comments by our friend from Oxford, but I have this final comment for him: I will be in Oxford this weekend, and I will be where I said I would be Saturday night.

Ya'll do realize that this is just a message board, and this is a game that none of us actually play in, right?

Being from Mississippi and still living here, this rivalry is about much more than football, just like the Bama-Auburn rivalry is about much more. Unless you are here 365 days each year, it is difficult to explain, and even more difficult to understand.

All you have to do is just ban the kernal and all his ridiculous posts and threads and everything would be fine over there.

I have no problem pleading ignorance on your point here.

It doesn't show up on my computer! And, I wasn't posting any smack (except for the jokes that have been around for a hundred years before it all, apparently, got out of hand!) My belief is that the best thing to do is to just ignore the flamers/smackers. Responding to their posts will only encourage them to post more. They are just trying to get some attention and get us riled up. If no one were to respond, they'd likely cease posting in no time.

I closed it because I received an e-mail about what was going on over there as I was walking out the door and I didn't/don't have time to wade through all of the senseless noise. There was more that needed removing than not and I don't have the time.

Personally I find it ironic and insulting to read stereotypical "Southern" insults bantered about by Louisianians and Mississippians when we hear enough of that garbage from Northerners.

The Smack forum is still basically for sports and stuff that is a little too edgy for the Tiger's Den. It's not for out and out personal insults, vulgar language and other immature filth. There are plenty of venues where that is tolerable, we don't need TigerForums.com to be another one.

We're certainly not hosting a tea party here nor are we above some heated discussions or some blue language but a big reason for our success is that the general level of discourse here is a step above most other forums and that attracts fans that want to have more intelligent discussions without wading through a ton of immature garbage.

When I can get some more moderators to help keep us running smooth I'll probably re-open it.
