I was talking to some Ole Miss fans sitting behind me before the game. They were expecting LSU to kick the dogshit out of them. I reminded them that at least they would have an easy game the following week. I was informed that this is totally incorrect. They told me that the game 'tween Ole Miss and State is not a rivalry and instead is a pure grudge match. The Ole Miss fans I talked to felt State could beat them in Stark Vegas and the records of the teams are meaningless. I'm sorry but I don't buy that. IMHO, State has no chance.
It's true dude. Just 2 years ago they had the same record as now and we left with the L. It's been like this forever. The records and teams' talent really don't mean sheeeat.
All of my family other than me are either MSU or ole miss fans, and many are attending the game for Thanksgiving. Unfortuantely, this means in order to keep things peaceful, I will also be in attendance. There is a lot of hatred and bitterness that goes along with this rivalry, so I believe that anything can happen. The ole misses built up last week so much, they can't help but be down. Couple this with it being Jackie's last game, and I think MSU might actually show up to play this game. Be sure to look for me on TV Thursday night. I'll be the one wearing the LSU stuff yelling GEAUX TO HELL OLE MISS. Then it's off to Tiger Stadium Friday morning where I belong. There is an article in today's Jackson newspaper that talks about how much the two schools hate each other. Here it is if anyone is interested. http://www.clarionledger.com/news/0311/25/srick.html "The rivalry always has been intense. In fact, the Golden Egg trophy, which goes annually to the winner, was created in hopes of stopping post-game brawls such as the one that occurred in 1926. That was the year Ole Miss won 7-6 at Starkville, ending a 17-game State winning streak. That was also the year Ole Miss fans tried to tear down State's goal posts and were rebuffed by State students who defended the goal posts with wooden chairs they splintered over the heads of the invaders."
