    From SECsports.com:

    Washington 7, Ole Miss 2

    JOEDY McCREARY
    Associated Press Writer

OXFORD, Miss. (AP) -- Aaron Hathaway had three RBIs and No. 2 seed Washington rocked Mississippi ace Mark Holliman in a 7-2 win Saturday to eliminate the top-seeded Rebels from the regional in Oxford.

Holliman (9-3) gave up five runs -- with two scoring on a Hathaway triple -- in two-thirds of an inning as the Rebels (39-21) lost their sixth straight game and went 0-2 for the first time in six regional appearances.

Hathaway added an RBI single in the ninth, and Kyle Parker (4-3) went the distance with seven strikeouts to extend Ole Miss' slump.

Washington (38-19-1) was to play Saturday night against the Tulane-Western Kentucky loser.

Hosting a regional for the first time in school history, Ole Miss flopped.

The Rebels combined to score two runs in two games and were booed in becoming the first top seed eliminated from the tournament.

The underdogs were having their day at the Oxford regional: lower-seeded teams were perfect through three games here.

The top two seeds, Washington and Ole Miss, were expected to meet sometime -- just not in the losers' bracket. Both teams were upset on the first day, Washington by No. 3 seed Tulane, Ole Miss by fourth-seeded Western Kentucky.

After being two-hit by the Hilltoppers in Friday's late game, the Rebels -- and especially Holliman -- appeared sluggish in the Saturday matinee.

The Huskies scored all the runs they'd need in the first inning, when they batted around.

Stephen Head hit his 13th homer of the season in the sixth for the Rebels, who also lost six straight in April.

John Otness' RBI single in the fifth made it 6-1 for Washington.

Ole Miss scored its first run of the tournament in the fourth on Charlie Babineaux's RBI single.

How many of their fans you think are calling for the coach's head?

Let's not try to feel above such activity. I can remember just a couple years ago LSU fans booing the Tigers (football) going into halftime of the Ole Miss game. Careful where you sling rocks.

    What the hell is this?

I was posing a legitimate question. I am actually curious as to what the fan's reactions are to this utter failure. As great a season as it has been for Ole Miss, it has to be received with mixed feelings now with their poor showing in the post season.

This was basically 2 losses to mediocre mid-week type teams.

Uh, I'm not talking about what fans are saying about coaches. I'm just talking about bringing out the fact fans booed the team. Since it's been done here before many a time.

But some perspective on your question. My brother is a UM alum and UM sports freak. They're pissed at how they have performed down the stretch but are in no way interested in axing Bianco. they were caught off guard as to how well they did this year.

Emotions can get the better of us and make us quite stupid. It's hard to see the forest from the trees in these cases.

Booing is booing. Whether it's directed at the players, coaches, whoever.

No 18 - 20 year old kid is going to think a boo is not directed at them but at there coaches.

Not to hijack the thread, but the Ole Miss game play calling wasn't that bad IMO. It was just horrible luck that the punt gets blocked, and fans ALWAYS want to take the aggressive rout. We were playing like garbage and just wanted to get to half time. Not a horrible idea. Put the punt gets blocked which nobody can see coming.

I honestly don't remember if we were losing or not but I know the score was close. As you said we were playing terribly so why take the chance to make something happen when you are playing horrible. The chance of something bad happening in that situation is a lot worse than if you take it conservatively and regroup. It was just bad luck.

As for Ole Miss, I don't know. Yeah they did have a good season, but man they really played poorly at the regional. I'm not a booer, but I would be pretty freaking upset/disgusted if I was an Ole Miss fan.
