Just saw this on www.theadvocate.com. Seems like it had to be done. Didn't see it on another thread. BATON ROUGE – LSU coach Les Miles announced on Thursday that he has dismissed three players from the football team – freshman defensive back Troy Giddens, freshman offensive lineman Zhamal Thomas and sophomore offensive lineman Kyle Anderson. “There is a standard that we insist upon with members of our football team when representing this university, our community and the state of Louisiana,” Miles said in a LSU news release. “When that standard isn’t met some adjustments must be made. “In this instance, it’s the dismissal of these three players. It’s unfortunate, but this action is necessary. I wish these young men well in their future endeavors.” More as this story develops.
Re: Miles Dismisses 3 Players Well there you have it. I will miss the on field contributions from these players but not the drama they have caused the university. I suppose the Anderson decision was a tough judgment call, but I feel certain that Miles acted in LSU's best interests. It is refreshing to see a line in the sand in regards to athletes at a big name school. How many years have we endured reading reports of this type of behavior(and far worse) being swept under the rug at other universities? I applaud Miles' standards and hope the lesson is not lost upon current players and all future recruits.
Re: Miles Dismisses 3 Players I am incredibly happy to know we have a coach that acts like this. None of the BS suspensions against crappy teams.
Re: Miles Dismisses 3 Players I think Anderson was just bad timing. It made the university look really bad to have 3 arrests in the same week... something had to be done. Had the other 2 not been arrested the same week, I expect Anderson would still be on the team.
Re: Miles Dismisses 3 Players These guys have to be kicking themselves in the rear for their actions. What a waste. I hope the best for these guys and I applaud coach Les Miles for his swift and stern punishment. Hopefully this will be a lesson learned for the entire team. :geauxtige
Re: Miles Dismisses 3 Players I'm not so sure. He broke a guy's jaw. Second degree battery can be treated as a misdemeanor or a felony. This one could be treated as a felony. But whether a felony or a midemeanor, it is a serious matter.
Re: Miles Dismisses 3 Players Not saying it isn't serious, but Rahim Alem & Chase Pittman both beat up guys just as bad, and didn't get kicked off the team.
Re: Miles Dismisses 3 Players I just talked to my friend who is a student coach on the team. He made a prediction earlier during the week saying that none of the players will be kicked off the team because it was a consensus of the team that he was a little soft when it came to these situations. He is usually dead on with the info he gives me but he is shocked. So I have a strong feeling all the players heard the message loud and clear since it was such a surprise to them. Good Job Les that is how you get the attention of your team and future recruits.
