Keep in mind that the Superdome has some weird turf on it. Oklahoma has played on anything like it this year. LSU played on it at Ole Miss and the SEC Championship game. Could be a small factor that plays a major role. Read an article that said that each team was bringing almost 5 pairs of different shoes for each player just in case.
I would think we would have a good idea on what shoes to wear after practicing on the SuperDome surface all week.
OU uses a practice field that has the same turf as the stuff in the Dome. OU has the advantage when it comes to field conditions.
Here's an article on the subject. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/news?slug=ap-sugarbowl&prov=ap&type=lgns
I agree with LSU, we do have the same turf in our practice facilty, plus several of our players played on similar surfaces last year in Stoolwater and at Tulsa. I'm not for certain on the playing surface in Houston, but I'm thinking we also played on a similar surface their last year. I know last year doesn't matter, but many on our team have at least played on a similar surface.
Unfortunately, OU does practice on the stuff. Even though it probably won't make a difference either way, OU probably has the advantage in this category. That's why Nick Saban has requested that LSU install it in their indoor practice facility.
Shuck and jive all you want ... it takes time to get used to playing on Astro-Turf* ... the homers don't play in domes and they don't play on this crap. They have their few practices to get acclimated and choose the correct footwear ... LSU has won their last 9 dome games playing on this type surface dating back to the 80's ... and knows EXACTLY what footwear gives the best results ... and those LSU shoes will be nice and broken in. Track meet on Astro-turf*------------------------> Advantage LSU
