I've heard from OkieTiger that she is out of her storm shelter and is okay. She said the tornado dissipated less than 3 miles from her house.

    Has anyone heard from Shane?

I'm fine, that was one bad mf'r but it was a good bit south of us. Lots and lots of damage. A school has been destroyed, could be as many as 30 or more kids inside.

I'm glad to hear that you're safe, Shane. The news coming from that elementary school is horrifying--only looking to recover bodies.

prayers for everybody up there. they actually came out on local radio here urging us to pray for Oklahoma City as the weather was bad, REAL BAD. this was about 3:30, and i got to a TV and watched the footage of the tornado, it looked like something out of a movie. then, seeing all the pics now, it's crazy. it's like a bomb hit. this is from Les, who coached all those years just about an hour north of where the tornado hit:

    Les Miles:
My thoughts and prayers go to the people in oklahoma...That state will have always a special place in my heart...Strong community !LM

I live on the north side of norman, and the tornado passed about 4 miles north of my house. My family is safe. My normally 25 minute drive home took me 3 hours today because of all the road closures. Its complete devastation around here. The death count is currently at 51 and many kids from an elementary school are still unaccounted for. All prayers are appreciated.

Sure appreciate it but the unfortunate thing is there just isnt much anyone can do. Storm shelters are a really big seller here and I still don't have one. The tornado that struck the north side yesterday actually spun up right over my house. When I say spun up, that is where the rotation really started to come together but didn't touch down till it had moved a few miles east and north. Needless to say I had the family in the car long before that and we just drove to a safe place. Bottom line, NOTHING in that house is worth staying in and trying to stick it out by risking anyone's life in the family. You can rebuild a house. I just feel awful for the people who woke up this morning and put their kids on a school bus like any other morning only to find out it would be the last time they ever see them. I just don't know how you deal with something like that. Knowing that ALL of it was completely out of anyone's control. The news is still running now and they are still searching for kids trapped in schools. Hopefully they find just one still alive.

I will be giving blood on Wednesday, as well as cleaning out my closet and the rest of the house to donate stuff we don't need. The devastation is just surreal.
