...right before a game with Auburn or Ole Miss, decides to strike up and play the Auburn or Ole Miss fight song. Your next thought is...

    1. "I'm so proud. Classy move."

    2. "What the F*@! is OUR band playing THAT song for?"

    3. You wouldn't care.

    Just curious.

(I wanted to do this as a poll, but I didn't see that option anywhere.)

I can't imagine Tiger Band playing an opponent's fight song. We wouldn't recognize the Auburn or Ole Miss songs anyway. We know "Rocky Top" but we would have to execute each and every member of the band if they ever played it.

PS, if you were a contributor you could make a poll.

The Auburn band has started playing the opponent's fight song as show of sportsmanship to the other team. In my opinion, it dampens the home crowd spirit and isn't classy, but cheesy.

UT, Michigan and Nebraska do this and our band gurus have started copying it and changing the pregame show in other ways. Alumni are up in arms about it and have started an email campaign to get the nonsense stopped.

Go ahead, make fun of us, but know it is some pencil headed admin types making this type of decision.

My dad is a die hard Tulane fan, and admittedly, I sorta still am. But my point: My dad told me about either a Florida State vs Tulane or LSU vs Tulane game 20 years ago or so. The Tulane band was weakly attempting it's own fight song. The opposing band, in response, started pumping out the Tulane fight song in an effort to "show them how it's done." To me, if an opposing band played our fight song, I'd take it as a mockery. So if Tigerband decided to play the opponents fight song, I'd laugh out loud. My perception is that they do it to illustrate how a "real" band plays fight songs.
