MAYOR PREDICTS NEW ORLEANS WILL BE PREDOMINANTLY AFRICAN-AMERICAN

    Shana Rose/WWL Reporter

    1-16-06

On the steps of New Orleans City Hall Monday morning, local officials and clergy spoke in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mayor Ray Nagin used the occasion to predict that New Orleans will once again be a predominantly black city.

"This city will be a majority African American city. It's the way God wants it to be," said Mayor Nagin. "It's time for us to rebuild a New Orleans, the one that should be a chocolate New Orleans. And I don't care what people are saying in Uptown or wherever they are. This city will be chocolate at the end of the day."

Just imagine the uproar if Trent Lott were to say that Biloxi/Gulfport should be rebuilt as majority White cities because "that's how God wants it". This is easily one of the most racist things I've ever heard.

I was wondering if somebody was going to post something about this. Problem with what he said, though, is that I really don't see a lot of those neighborhoods being rebuilt. But, his statement really isn't anything new - New Orleans has been predominantly black for quite some time now.

I did, however, like how he criticized blacks for all of the violence and in-fighting that they cause. It was also nice to see him call out black leaders who tear relations apart rather than bringing people together. Of course, if a white person had said this, all hell would break loose. I may get flamed for this, but after living in New Orleans all my life, it's clear that many blacks are capable of a lot more racism than whites.

I don't...the same way Nagin doesn't know that He does. Personally, I don't think God has a preference in the matter.

Do you have some kind of reading comprehension problem, Martin? This is what I posted...I'll type it slowly so you can follow:

I don't...the same way Nagin doesn't know that He does. Personally, I don't think God has a preference in the matter.

See what I said? I said that I DON'T know what God wants...any more than anybody else does. I then stated my OPINION that He doesn't have a preference. It's an OPINION, a belief not an authoritative statement. See how it works?

Why am I even debating this with you?

no, it is actually the thing i do better than anything else i do.

in order to know that nagin was wrong, you would have to know what god wants, correct? you cant know that nagin is right or wrong unless you know what god wants. you would need to check what god actually wants vs what nagin claims he wants in order to know nagin was wrong.

then for all you know nagin could be right. after all, you said you only have an opinion, you dont know what god wants. but you cant have it both ways. if you do not know what god wants, then you dont know that he (god) doesnt want what nagin says. yunno, logic.

I never particularly liked Nagin, but this makes me lose even more respect for him.

As some have mentioned, a white politician would be crucified for these comments. Special interest groups would demand his resignation. Jesse Jackson would hold a conference stating that he should be mayor... ridiculous.

Man I am thirst for the new Offical drink of New Orleans....Yahoo anyone.

Maybe we can attrach the Hersey people to move down here now since it will be chocolate dreams forever.

What an idiot, I guess it could be worse we could have another guy screaming for a Blond Haired/Blue Eyed Town.

Of we could be on the verge of a new Hymietown if Jesse Jackson had his way.
