Olympic Sports Book (thegreek.com) has posted it's odds to win the next BCS Championship in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. The favorites are as follows: Oklahoma 6 to 1; Notre Dame 6 to 1; Ohio St 8 to 1; Southern Cal 10 to 1; Florida St 10 to 1; LSU 12 to 1; Florida 12 to 1; Texas 12 to 1; UCLA 15 to 1; West Virginia 18 to 1; Miami 18 to 1; Auburn 20 to 1. I was surprised to see Oklahoma, Florida St, and UCLA getting so much respect. I put $50 down on the Bayou Bengals.
You would think the Barners and USC would both be even money since they will claim the championship whether they win it or not.
I am sorry, WVU will always have a solid football team; just not a top program. Now that they are a "target" in college football, their odds to win the National Championship are a whole lot slimmer than is posted. And I think we all can agree that Oklahoma being up there that high is rediculous.
Bookies aren't in bidness to lose money. They know what they are doing. Oklahoma had an extremely young team this past year and they were playing very well after a bad start. And you can bet that they will be plenty hungry to re-gain the lofty position where they feel they belong. Also the fact that Texas won the NC is going to motivate them to run that extra sprint or work that much harder in the weight room. It would be a mistake to underestimate the Sooners this year. After saying all of this, I was still very surprised to see them as the bookie's co-favorite to win the national championship.
I hope you don't need the money. The 2006 season will be a re-building one for the Tigers, and they will have an unfavorable road schedule. If they win 8 out of 12, that will be considered a successful year.
