Obama awarded 2009 Nobel Peace Prize - CNN.com Ok first of all, I can't believe that this wasn't on here yet. Second, can anybody justify this? I am not an Obama supporter, but I'm not on the far right, either. I just can't see what he has done so far to merit this, especially when you consider the fact that nominations for the prize closed in February, less that a month after he took office. I know there are people who believe in Obama on this board, so I'm asking you: Do you think this is legit? Do you really feel that he is deserving of this award? It was said in the article that he was awarded this much on the same basis that it was given to Gorbachev in 1990, because of his efforts to open the Soviet Union and the potential good that could come from it. The fact is that Gorby had been in power for 4 years at that point and had already produced a body of work that would merit such an award. Unless someone can convince me otherwise, I call complete BS on this.
well, in the sense that he has exactly continued the policies of bush, not closing guantanamo, keeping the war going in both iraq and afganistan, he deserves the prize.
the list of folks that have won this award is ludicrous. it may as well be called the award for idiots. al gore, yasser arafat, obama. if you get nominated, ou should tell them no thanks.
The Nobel Prize has been sliding toward irrelevancy for a long time and it has just made it to home plate.
He hasn't built a single Habitat house. Jimmy Carter had to build about 3,000 of them before he got his prize.
I guess this shows that the Nobel prize is nothing more than a glorified beauty contest, but I was really hoping that someone would at least offer up some reason why this was warranted. I've been trying to come up with any reason that they could have awarded it and there's just nothing there other than "we wanted to", which I suppose with a subjective award is reason enough.
The article I read something about the his potential of reducing warhead stockpiles, bringing peace to the middle east, trying to reduce the conflict between Islamic states and the US and some other things. So they based it off potential. So basically its like pre season Heisman race or pre season All Americans. And we know how well thats going so far. :rolleye33: So yea its pretty much a joke, whoever is on that panel.
So yea its pretty much a joke, whoever is on that panel.[/quote] Over the decades, I have noted that awarding a Nobel Prize is often no more than a wishful-thinking effort to influence the future. tgsam
wow. didnt see this coming. now maybe the GOP will stop saying he hasnt accomplished anything, or maybe not.
