It's amazing what getting blown out by Michigan and losing to Michigan State can do to your ego. According to Fox, Notre Dame is in the process of negotiating a deal to join the ACC. http://www.foxsports.com/content/view?contentId=1694882
I don't see it happening. ND has already turned down overtures from the Big 10 where they would be a natural fit. Notre Dame has done well as an independent for a long time. South Bend, Indiana is a long way from the Atlantic Coast and travel expenses would be high going to conference games. Especially if they join in all sports. Who would fund the bill to send the womens soccer team to Miami -- ND football.
Exactly right. If Notre Dame is going to get into a football conference, two much better options are out there; the Big Ten, and the Big East, where they are already a CNF member. There is speculation that the Big East, should they get desperate to maintain football respectability and their BCS tie-in, will try to force Notre Dame to join in football by threatening to totally kick them out of the league if they don't. But now that we're hearing about the Big East's latest expansion plan, that scenario is unlikely. Besides, I'm not so sure the threat is that heavy. Notre Dame might just tell the Big East to go screw itself and join C-USA as a CNF member. And such a move would be the death-knell for the Big East as a BCS conference. They would lose all respectability as a power football conference if it is revealed that Notre Dame would rather be a CNF member in CUSA and a football independent, than an all sports member of the Big East.
One question, does not the ACC stand for Atlantic Coast Conference ??? If so is South Bend Indiana near the Atlantic Coast. Yes I know Va Tech is 400 miles inland (WHich I think is the farthest west in the new ACC) But although I am from Louisiana looking at a map here. Indiana is about 3 states over...
As others have already said, there is not the slightest chance that Notre Dame football team will join the ACC. Fox must have Geraldo Rivera reporting on this one.
Ain't gonna happen! Just another way of notre dame being talked about in the news. I'm sick of the news media being wet over notre dame.
