Sept. 3rd North Texas comes to town with the national russing leaders from 2003 and 2004 on their team. Can LSU's LB step up and stop the run how will our DE's do on the outside. This will be a good test of Bo's D vs the run and should give us a good indication of what our D can do. Do you think the two guys from North Texas have great stats because they play in a crap conference or are they legit. Does anyone know how they have done vs stronger non-conference oppns.? Anyone know anything about their O-line, will we just push them around?
It's because they play in a crap conference. When UNT has played tough competition (Texas, Arkansas, etc.), those guys struggled to gain yards--and didn't succeed.
Their yards come from playing all these teams every year. Florida International, ULM, Florida Atlantic, ULL, Mid. Tenn.
Yet it will look better for us at the end of the season when they win their conference and go to the New Orleans Bowl like they always do. It's win-win.
Well, let's see: the only defense N Texas faced in 2004 that LSU compares favorably to talent-wise was Texas. The Longhorns squeaked out a tough, hard-fought 65 point win in that one. Stats-wise, one team gained 513 yards in rushing alone on 60 rushing attempts. I'll give you a hint: that team wasn't North Texas. As for that vaunted UNT rushing attack, final rushing stats for the game were: 26 carries, 38 yards. Ouch. (PS-Ced Benson went off for 181 that night. Expect Alley to crack 200...assuming Les leaves him in past halftime...LOL.)
I've seen UNT in person again ULL... Yeah, they ran the crap out of the ball, but ULL was ranked last (or close to last ) in the country in rushing D... their running backs are undersized but fast, and their line is weak...
