I was out riding on False River yesterday and couldn't help but notice a few boats parked close to a concrete sea wall walking around with sticks. And it dawned on me. They are freaking noodling (they called it grabbing). They had a few huge catfish. Must have been every bit of 3 feet + . I didn't have a phone with me but a friend riding snapped a pic on his iPhone so I'm going to try and post it up. Anyone ever done this? Noodling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I have never in my life, done anything the HARD way. What is the appeal? Doing something useful and achieving maximum slack while doing it is the achievement that I seek. I catfish by the trotline and patient beer-drinking method.
Anyone heard of snagging? A large weight is added to the line along with a rather large and sturdy hook, no bait. The hook is then dragged on the bottom of the water in the hopes of snagging a fish. Mainly done in deep water. I've seen video but never done it, doesn't sound very fun to me.
I saw a video of a guy that had a workers comp claim and supposedly needed back surgery. He was on the banks of the Mississippi River "snagging"! Guess it was good therapy for his back. My friend and I are going back this fall when the Atchafalaya is low. Completely forgot about that thread.
Was thinking about this the other day talking to some guys about noodling while working in OK. None of them had a clue what it was. Still not sure I fully understand it either....I get hung up enough on s*** on the bottom without jerking a huge hook and weight dragging on the bottom.
