Hello all, I am one of the weird few who actually likes both LSU and Ole Miss. I grew up in Louisiana as an LSU fan but moved to Mississippi in high school and ended up at Ole Miss. Anyway, I'm taking graduate level class on the history of higher education. We are required to review a book on an institution outside the state of MS. I would really like to do LSU. I've gone to Amazon.com and searched on Google but haven't had much luck finding a book. Does anyone know any books on the history of LSU? And, where one might find one of these books? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!!! Thanks in advance!!!
My first Choice: Amazon has Under Stately Oaks: A Pictorial History of Lsu Written by Thomas F. Ruffin , Jo Jackson , Mary J. Hebert Published by Louisiana State University Press (March 2002) ISBN 0807126829 Price $34.95 There are several LSU History Books at the Barnes and Noble on Corporate (Citiplace) Blvd, . BARNES & NOBLE BOOKSELLERS (225) 926-2600 2590 CITIPLACE CT BATON ROUGE, LA 70808 Here's link:http://www.tigerweekly.com/article130.html good history of LSU's military tradtion Lastly you can try this site http://www.lsu.edu/about_ht.htm not my favorite it glosses over football. Good Luck
Excellent book. Great historical reference photographs. The picture of the Greek Theatre from the 30's is almost eerie. I was in BR just when it came out in 2002 and wanted to have Ruffin sign mine, but I was busy (as I always am when I'm back in BR) and missed the book signing in the Union. This is a good coffee table book as well. Also brings back some great memories and after being gone for 25 years - reminds me of home.
Question Thanks for the info!!!!! I saw the pictorial book on Amazon. How much writing is in it? If it is only pictures I probably can't use that. Thanks a bunch!!!!

Bay Area tiger can problem confirm that "under stately Oaks" has the history too, I'm pretty sure it did.
There is actually a good historical synopsis of THE Louisiana State University contained within the book. Obviously the photos predominate but there is a decent amount of copy as well... All in all a fascinating book.
