SEC coaching carousel slows, for now By MARK LONG, AP Sports Writer DESTIN, Fla. (AP) -- Southeastern Conference football coaches spent part of last year's spring meetings getting to know one another. With three new coaches and another returning to the league after a three-year hiatus, there were introductions, handshakes and pleasantries galore. No need for any of that this time around. Every football coach in the league kept his job after last season, something that hasn't happened since 1988. Has the SEC finally found stability after 36 coaching changes in the last 17 years and numerous high-profile debacles that included the tenures of Mike DuBose, Hal Mumme, Mike Price and Ron Zook? It was mentioned on Conference Call last night. Steve Spurrier joked, "This year must have been a down year for firings".
I don't think they've found stability. Fact is we brought in new coaches for a third of the conference in one year. Have we done anything that crazy since 1988?
there are quite a few on the brink... I expect 4-5 this year to be fired Ed O. Croom Nutt Rich Brooks and maybe the guy from vandy, b/c they will be god-awful this year
I figure "O" will be given 2-3 more years, he has recruited well. Croom probably will get another couple, also. Who is State going to get any better who is willing to go to the coaches graveyard that is Moo U? Not Jimbo, for sure. If Nutt wins 8, he will not be fired. Brooks should worry.
nutt won't win 8... lol... we beating them, auburn is beating them, USC is beating them, and florida/georgia is beating them... i don't know if they play both... that doesn't leave much room for error...
