It's over. History. Get over it. He could have handled leaving better, but in the end what does it matter? He's gone. It is time, past time, to move on. Apparently the decision has been made for Saban to coach in the bowl game. I wouldn't let him, but, that's me. Whatever. Hopefully the Tigers give a good account of themselves. The focus now, from LSU, and from the fans, needs to be on finding the best person to continue LSU's success. We need to tell Skip Bertman we're not going to accept another Curley Hallman (Les Miles, Tommy West, Jeff Bowers.) I'm willing to consider lesser-known candidates, however. Actually, the Glenn guy at Wyoming sounds interesting. I think we'll take a run at some of the big names (Davis, Petrino) but will wind up hiring Rich Rodriguez, if he'll leave his alma mater, and if not him, perhaps Mike Riley. Thoughts? Rumors? Wishes?
What are you talking about? Nick never said he wasn't going to coach at LSU anymore... He's just picking up some extra work... He can hold down 2 jobs, I'm sure... Na, seriously... I dunno. I like Del Rio, but i think there's not a chance we're going to get him. I think I gotta wait this one out and not speculate.... I don't know all that much about the available coaches.... Ya think ol' Nick will take Muschamp with him? I'd like to see him have a shot at a head coaching spot.
I'm pretty sure Nick will take him with him. May not be DC in Miami, but there will be a spot on staff for him, IMO.
I'm a realist, Swerved. I saw the handwriting on the wall early last week. That's why I joined this forum ... to try to engage in some educated speculation about who the next coach will be. For that, I got accused of being a Dolphin fan. Whatever. I have no interest in flaming those posters who claimed to have inside sources that Saban was staying. Whatever. I knew that was bogus, or at the least those posters were blithely misinformed or just playing a hunch hoping they'd be right. At this point, why cry over spilt milk? I have a pretty good idea that Skip knew all along that Saban would take the gig, so I surely hope he's been working on a replacement for a while now, and not just starting from scratch. I like Muschamp, and Fisher for that matter, but neither of them are ready for the LSU HC job. My feeling is that the new guy Skip hires will want to bring in his own folks. I think the majority of the current assistants will be outta here. I'd like to see the strength coach kept, however. Doesn't he work for all the sports, not just football? I would be happy w/ Del Rio but I don't see him leaving the NFL. I would be happy w/ Butch Davis as well, but his health situation concerns me. It's a crapshoot. I think Rodriguez would be a great hire and might be "gettable," but I could be wrong, he is coaching at his alma mater after all. Can you think of any guys out there that no one is talking about (like Saban in 1999?) Frank Beamer?
While it may not be what the fans want Im pretty sure few, if any, assistants will be retained. New coaches always have a core group they have worked with or know through coaching circles and want to work with. Unless the new coach has ties to any of our current staff, its unlikely any will be retained. If our new coach comes from a current college job chances are he will bring most of his staff anyway. Where this hurts is recruiting but with our limited slots and level of current talent we can afford a recruiting hit this year.
I don't care who stays and who goes as long as the new guy puts together a quality staff that gets the job done. There are a few that I think would be nice to have on the next staff however.
