Six Tigers were invited to the combine this year. One less from last year's total. JR, Bowe, Landry, Davis, Daniels, and Pittman. It started today and last a week. Check the NFL Network out during the week for interviews, conferences, and drills during the week. Here are some positive remarks by an NFL Network analyst: A number of prospects have caught Mayock's attention, but few have impressed him more than former LSU quarterback JaMarcus Russell. "From a physical set perspective," said Mayock, "I've never seen a college quarterback with more ability than JaMarcus Russell. You put the tape on and it's frightening. He's 6-6, 260 pounds. He can make every throw. He's got a pretty good feel for the game for a guy that hasn't had all that many snaps." "I think after JaMarcus Russell, you have to look at one of my favorite players in the draft, which is LaRon Landry, the free safety. I think there's a bit of a trend in the NFL now trying to draft more athletic safeties because safeties have to play deep half coverages, they have to play man-to-man, sometimes get up in the box and be physical. I think LaRon Landry, in my opinion, is a top ten pick." Read the rest here: http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070221/SPORTS0202/302210003/1028
Huh, hasn't he been the starter for two years? Sounds like another expert to me. Sorry, know you were just quoting but I had to call that one... Later, Fur
I think they mean JR has really on had 2 seasons as a starter compared to the other QBs in the draft who were 3-4 year starters.:thumb:
Perhaps that what he meant, but I'd be inclined to think most college QB's avg two starting seasons due to chart depth. There are probably a good many three years and few four year starters. Probably along a 70/25/5 breakdown for 2/3/4 years respectively. Also ignoring 1 year starters... but still think two is the avg by a good margin. Just my opinion, since I am too lazy to research... Still think the perspective of his opinion about not enough snaps is unqualified. Finished hijacking thread now, all the best to JR, he's really earned it. Later, Fur
I think that's a great compliment. Since by this he means, he has better feeling for the game than most QBs who played only 2 seasons.
Quite interesting who is grouped together to work out. Russell in the same group with: Troy Smith - Ohio St Steve Smith - USC Rhema McKnight - Notre Dame Troy will see what he can never be. Rhema will have nightmares about the Sugarbowl. Quinn in the same group with: Dwayne Bowe - LSU Craig Davis - LSU Ted Ginn - Ohio St Dwayne, Craig, and Ted will all wonder why this guy was considered for the Heisman. Good luck boys...:helmet:
I disagree. Normally top QBs have been starters for three or four years at their schools, which logically makes sense. If they're this good, they can win the starting job as freshmen. It's just less common for a guy THIS good to grow into the position in two seasons, rather than three. I'm with you on the too lazy to research thing. :hihi:
Update for Hurricane From the combine today. 1:15 p.m.:LSU Quarterback JaMarcus Russell could end up being the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. Teams are going to have to wait to see him again throw the ball though. He will not be working out at the NFL Combine. He is here for his physicals and interviews only.
One more The unappreciated aspect of the WR position. 12:20 p.m.: Dwayne Bowe of LSU is arguably the best blocking wide receiver in the draft, so it was no surprise how he answered when he was asked which got his teammates more excited, a big block, or a big catch. “I’d have to say a big block. I got a lot of ‘ooohs’ from my teammates with a good crack back block.”
