NEW PREAMBLE TO THE CONSTITUTION Somebody said this was probably the best e-mail he'd seen in a long, long time. The following has been attributed to State Rep Mitchell Aye from GA. "We the sensible people of the United States, in an attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the blessings of debt-free liberty to ourselves and our great-great-great-grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bed-wetters. We hold these truths to be self evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim they require a Bill of NON-Rights." ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen TV, or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything. ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone -- not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc.; but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be. ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful, do not expect the tool manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy. ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes. (This one is my pet peeve...get an education and go to work....don't expect everyone else to take care of you!) ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we're just not interested in public health care. ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don't be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair. ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat, or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don't be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won't have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure. ARTICLE VIII: You do not have the right to a job. All of us sure want you to have a job, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. (AMEN!) (AMEN, AGAIN) ARTICLE IX: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to PURSUE happiness, which by the way, is a lot easier if you are unencumbered by an over abundance of idiotic laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights. ARTICLE X: This is an English speaking country. We don't care where you are from, English is our language. Learn it or go back to wherever you came from! (lastly....) ARTICLE XI: You do not have the right to change our country's history or heritage. This country was founded on the belief in one true God. And yet, you are given the freedom to believe in any religion, any faith, or no faith at all; with no fear of persecution. The phrase IN GOD WE TRUST is part of our heritage and history, and if you are uncomfortable with it, TOUGH!!!!
the last two are stupid and wrong. the last one is incredibly dishonest and terrible. otherwise i mostly agree, so does everyone i would guess. except for the health care part, which some liberals might not agree with, i would expect that 95% of people agree with the rest.
Martin is right. Those last two are for people who think of America as a Norman Rockwell painting. English is the PRIMARY language of the USA and Christian faith is the PRIMARY religious belief, but neither should be demanded of anyone.
right. regardless of the religion of the founding fathers (and they were much less christian than the rest of the population), they were definitely secularists. they respected everyone's right to be free from religion. few things are more important than keeping your government secular, no matter what religion you are personally.
you are about to say it should be required for citizenship. see. not 100, but 2 or 3 isnt bad. i have been in places like montreal where there are two prominent languages, and it doesnt bother me much. and my voting material is already in spanish and english. the sample ballot i got in the mail, as well as the actual machine i voted on. and all the workers at the polling place were bilingual. it wasnt a problem. that is like saying two types of music is divisive. its just a different culture, it isnt stealing your soul.
The most famous copy was written in English, but the document was also written in French which was the language most commonly used in business and law at the time. All American laws were written in French until the time just before the war of northern agression You are right. Learning English is beneficial to anyone. American laws are already printed in hundreds of languages. You can get the congressional record in almost any language. It might not be practical to print highway signs in 100 languages, but maybe two or three. It seems to work fine in Breaux Bridge, Miami, and certain Dutch speaking communities in the mid-west. Poppy cock. It may be easier, but that is all. No. America was founded on the principle of liberty and democracy. People have a right to spreak, read, teach, and learn whatever language they choose. Why do you hate freedom so much that you will force your will on others?
If it wouldn't bother me i wouldn't care, but it does and i do. My Bank's ATM's first question is a choice between english and spanish. It angers me every time i have to reach out and select "english". It's wasted time and motion, inefficient, inefficiency that permeates our great melting pot. What about jury trials? Do we need interpreters, or separate but equal? I don't care if these people never learn english, but it should affect me none whatsoever. Let them flounder about and suffer, or learn 'English'
you of course realize that a kid born in chinatown to immigrant parents who only speak chinese, and grows up with chinese as his first language is exactly as american as you right? this is his country in the exact same sense that it is yours. this appears to be merely silly cultural nationalism on your part. it is because people think like you all over the world, dividing themselves into arbitrary groups, that we cant get past all these primitive problems we have. you are an individual. think like it. do not let the random factors you were born into dictate your views.
I have spent alot of time in Miami and in the banks they have english and spanish lines. It didn't bother me at all. I think that people should atleast speak or understand enough english to communicate. Taking away one's heritage isn't right IMHO. This country was built on the idea of being a "melting pot". To order people to only do something one way is not democratic its communist. Isn't that what happened to the cajuns? They were punished for speaking french and now the cajun french dialect is a dying language. The last 2 on that list are just assinine...
I'm sure I'm not speaking only for myself when I say that I'm offended when you tell people who have views that you don't agree with that they are indoctrinated.
