The only problem now is Slick Nick's credibility (or lack thereof). He has told so many lies in the past few weeks you never know what to believe when he says something. He said yesterday that he has not offered anyone the OC job, yet Jimbo Fisher has said openly he was offered the job. I choose to believe Jimbo. FWIW, the bama homer for the Huntsville Times says Applewhite is the new QB coach. It's cherry pink And apple(blossom)white la, la,la Oh wait that's Pat Boone
MA is enroute to Bama this morning to sign the contract for OC and QB coach. He was offer HC job at Rice but felt he was not ready to be HC at this point. He was offered OC/QB at LSU, but would not be able to call most of the plays. Bama gives him full control. Makes you wonder who will actually come if CLM is not going to give them full control. Fisher put up with it @ $400k and the patience to get a better gig. Also, if we lose RP, which could happen, and Flynn goes down, we have freshman QB with no game experience. Think about it.
Chicken Little the sky is falling. LSU has many ex QB/Athletes that could move into the QB job if ever needed. Excitement and success comes from focusing on the positive. LSU has a great team of guys and a great coaching staff. I can't remember when we have ever had back to back seasons like the last two with great Bowl games. Saban's follow up to the NC was weak. I'm still hurting over the Iowa meltdown after JaMarcus had won the game.
I don't believe he was offered the OC job at LSU. That will be Monken's job. Applewhite would have taken Monken's old job. Heh. Saban gives no assistant full control. If Saban gets his defense to his liking, he'll be ultra conservative on offense. We saw that here. Monken. Don't know who we'll hire to replace Monken. Fisher had issues with Saban. Fisher had issues with Miles. While the issues were different, he had issues with both of them. Maybe the problem was Fisher? Just a thought. Not a thing we can do about it. If (and that's still a big if) RP screwed up, I'd rather Miles remove him from the program versus keeping him just b/c we are thin at QB.
If you think Nick EVER let anyone have "full control" but Nick, you are kidding yourself. Even Jimbo didn't have "full control" under Nick. Nick always has the final say/approval of EVERYTHING that goes on in a program - its just his nature. Remember, MA's dad was once the President of the Bama Alumni Association. MA wanted to go to Bama out of HS, but was not offered. There are more connections between MA's family and Bama.
Major Applewhite was named after Major Ogilve, star bammer player in the late 70's, who ran over our azz enough times. Applewhites family is all bama.
The sky is not falling. I just stated what could happen in the year to come at QB. I have conf in the kids, but the issue is who we get to be a QB coach to teach these kids. Jimbo proved himself. Let's hope we can find a good replacement. I too will always remember Satin and his last defensive stop against Iowa, as do many LSU fans.
Applewhite is at work today.....at BAMA . He and other coaches are meeting with 9 recruits visiting the Capstone.
