So, the Ducks won the Stanley cup... I'll be starting to watch the build up to what should be one of the more interesting NBA drafts in years. There are certainly some impact players in this draft, mixed in with a lot of "seasoned" college players, including a good number of SEC players. Of course, there's Big Baby. After a disappointing season, this article is a good status update on where Glen is right now... http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports/7881192.html?showAll=y&c=y From my point of view, this will be a tough year for Big Baby to come out given the depth of this draft, but as good a time as any, if his heart is no longer in the college game--which sounds like the case. The good news is he's taking this seriously. His weight is right around 290, which I've always felt was his ideal weight, and he's showing a good attitude. I'm hopeful that he's a first round draft pick, b/c I do believe he's an underrated talent, plays hard, and will just be a great influence on the personality level to any team. For teams increasingly looking at character, Glen has some intangibles there. Good luck, Glen. :geauxtige :bball: :champs: LSU IS A BASKETBALL SCHOOL. SIX NBA LOTTERY PICKS.
i still dont get the logic behind skipping the predraft camp. if he was a possible lottery pick, ok, i get it, but when you're a reach for the first round and a possible free agent signer, i dont get it. sounds afraid of looking bad---and i dont think that's him. i bet his agent has no experience and could lose him some $$$, but we'll never know how well he would have done at the camp. hopefully, a team will be impressed with him and overreach so he can have a decent signing bonus. because you never know how things will go and he may need an extra $200k someday soon.
Here is what Davis says about the reason for skipping the camp. You can check out his journal entries leading up to the draft, here is the 2nd entry, Go to the bottom of the page to see the previous entry. He has planned several workout with NBA teams. http://collegebasketball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=680608
ive heard the explanations, but does he really think scouts cant tell when guards are putting him in bad positions? i dont know what the right decision is, but the problem is no one does, except the scouts/gms, i guess. i dont think its the time for him to run scared.
I dont know what the right decision is either but I see what they are going for. If he goes to the camp it is all or nothing. Barely any projected 1st rounders will be there and Big Baby wants to be seen as a 1st round guy also. If he goes and has a poor showing at a last chance tryout and has a bad day that could be the end of it. Too much risk with very little reward. He could be bumped out of the 2nd round and if he does great at the camp as expected he would still be barely a 2nd rounder.
OK, this is just a hunch, but I have a feeling GD will go undrafted. Wonderful player at LSU, and a great character guy, but I don't think many NBA teams have a need for a 6'8" power forward who can barely jump high enough to dunk.
Your right he could go undrafted but he will at least get a free agent contract in the NBA. One major plus for him is that he creates matchup problems. Teams will try to guard him with a 3,4, or 5. Not dunking will not be a problem for him like others who rarely dunked like Malone. He is a great rebounder and he creates space for himself.
I agree that playing below the rim won't be much of an issue because of how he uses his body and plays with effort. I'm pulling for him but he could've been an all-time favorite if he would've come back one more year and turned it around. I've mostly defended Brady but can see how it may be tough to put up with him for 4 years. I don't know the full details of the other issues from last year but obviously they played a factor. Are you talking about Karl Malone? In his first 10 years in the league, I'm almost positive he used to be in the top 10 in number of dunks/game. It took some time for his offensive game to develop but he used to fill the lane and DELIVER with those one hand dunks. They weren't pretty and I was never a fan of Malone (or Utah). I was a Barkley fan although he didn't have quite as good a career as Malone. Barkley had much better legs than Big Baby but was at least a couple of inches shorter. Barkley and Baby are completely different players, although both extremely unique. Barkey is (slightly) more refined now but someone once said you can see a thought form in his head and come out of his mouth all at once. I don't agree with everything he says (or does) but think he's a quality all-around guy with good intentions. I haven't ready his book about race in America but heard him talking about it and thought it was genuine. He said it's hard to move forward and grow as a people when you can't even talk or joke about race. I'm almost thirty and petrified about our society with my generation and the group a little younger but one thing that may be better is we (they) don't see color as much as older generations. Sorry for getting off topic.
Its not that he doesn't dunk, its that his game is basically below the rim. He uses that big body to create space, but that's in college, where the biggest guys are about his height, but not nearly as heavy or strong as he is. In the NBA, he'll be going against a 7 foot center and a 6'10 power forward every night, both playing well above the rim. The matchup problems you envision aren't going to happen unless GD plays small forward. He's neither quick enough nor has the outside shot to play there. Nope, power forward is his game, but he doesn't have the NBA tools to do it.
