This stuff is so very important.
Our country is at risk, if we turn on our own then there will be very few if any to protect us.
I'm not trying to change the subject but every time I think about this story it reminds me of the border guards that went to jail.
I can see the other border guards NOT doing there jobs because of low morale or constantly looking over your shoulder to see if someone is going to double cross you in the process.

It's kind of a mixed bag. Sure, it's very frustrating that in the very unlikely event we'd have to go trigger down, we first have to consider a whole slew of things, but at the same time, we're conducting a draw down of the war. OIF is over. A lot of the violence you see and read about is aimed towards Iraqis. Most of the stuff aimed at us is merely harrassment-style attacks that really do no harm or damage.

I won't get into much more because it has to deal with the standing rules of engagement which is not something they want us flat out advertising out in the open. I do know, however, that it is somewhat - and I use that term loosely - similar over in Afghanistan. All I'll say is it makes it tough to do your job when you have all these restrictions put on you. And that is what is so frustrating for all of us.

When rules of engagement are written by fighting men and not by fat ass politicians, this type of crap won't happen.

From your perspective. Ask 10 men get 10 different answers.

It's funny you come back with that, because it is a subject we discuss daily. And by we I mean myself and the 15 other pilots on my shift. Oh yeah, and all the pilots on the other shift. So there's about 30 or 40 men (okay, 1 woman) with the same perspective as mine. Then we have all of our crew chiefs who sit in the back with the weapons. Not to mention the countless Marines and soldiers who go outside the wire on convoys daily, who also must adhere to the ROE (we discuss it with them, too). It's a fact of life over here and I acknowledged as much in an earlier post, as the war is drawing to a close. Like I said, it still makes it harder to do the job you're trained to do if and when a situation comes up.

Oh yeah, but that's right. You're not in Iraq, so you obviously know more than us and have a better perspective. :dis:

So now all 120k+ troops have your same perspective. I bet these that have come back have that same perspective as well.

    Don't be naive.

    And wow nice ego trip.

I'm just making the obvious assumption that not everyone has the same view. Whether you like it or not.

Okay what exactly are we arguing here, because I'm a little confused. I pointed out that Sourdoughman's post about troops having to hesitate because of instances like this is absolutely correct. It's not a perspective, it's how things are. If I were to go trigger down at this point on somebody, you better believe I'd be standing tall in front of the man explaining myself. It's all political. And you call me naive? I'm the one over here living it everyday. That's an ego trip?

If you're going to argue with me on this simple fact, I'm going to quit wasting my time on you, because clearly you have no idea what you are talking about.

He is one man trying to speak for a group of people. That's like SF trying to speak for all conservatives..

He doesn't have to like it.

He also keeps using 1st person talking about his perspective. Which obviously wouldn't apply to every person. Maybe a majority but not everyone. If he can't see that then it's his problem not mine.

He's one of them. He says the ROE causes hesitation by troops. He's right. He's in a position to know. You are not. You shouldn't argue with him because you are not in a position to know. You're just trying to be a little snit.

You're like gumborue without the training.
