How high will love child 1-1 Notre Dame jump to in the Top 25 after beating an overrated Michigan team?

USC will likely get bumped so it will be #1 vs. #2 when they play. If USC beast ND than they will likely secure #1 for the rest of the year even if they lose to Cal. We will move down some spots to make room for ND.

Geez, one thing I don't understand about this board is everyone's hard on for Notre Dame. To me that school represents everything right about college football. It has untouchable tradition, great acedemics, and a vested interest in the post football lives of its players. Note Dame manages to compete at a a very high level despite being limited in recruiting by its amazing requirements. They have amazing fan support despite a small alumni base. And yes the media does adore them, but is that ND's fault?

I will cheer for ND every week...well, unless they play the Tigers.

To answer your question higher than 23 would be absurd.

I agree with SupaFan, ecspecially nowadays since they aren't that great. Im glad they beat Michigan and i would be lying if I said i wasn't rooting for Marshall against OSU. im a huge fan of LSU, but im also a fan of college football in general. I like seeing the Mac schools beat up on the Big Ten and i always watch Notre Dame on TV before LSU come on. Besides, they hate USC just as much as we do, so we have to root for them when the 2 play for that traveling trophy they have. But as far as the season at Notre Dame, it's win or be fired for Willingham. That's why i believe they beat Michigan.

ND is the media's other child. I read an article about the most overrated teams in the nation. Texas, ND, and USC topped this writer's list because they are always in the spotlight and are expected to do well. It doesn't take much for the pollsters to be impressed by these teams because of it. Teams like LSU on the other hand must make extraordinary feats to get into the pollsters limited sight.

I don't disagree with the other stuff, all of those teams are media darlings and get attention with every winning season.

But, LSU is getting it's fair share of attention this year and started the season ranked very high. Of course it would have been nice to be #1, but we lost a ton of players while OU and SC did not. We are ranked high anyway, many in the nation (I don't agree with them) feel GA is better this year. That is the only reason we are not ranked 3, because of GA. Some feel we are not the best team in the SEC, so it makes it hard to vote us #1 in the nation. If SC losses, then they will fall out of the top 10 . . . like any other top 10 team. We get a chance to play GA, on the field, which will determine who stays in the hunt for the top 3 in the SEC.

We can't expect huge jumps in the rankings for beating Ark St, we are ranked too high to jump other schools ranked in the top 5 (when they all win). If OU, SC, and LSU all go undefeated . . . then the current rankings will hurt us in earning the Orange Bowl. But how many times have the top 3 teams go undefeated wire to wire? Do you really think OU or SC can lose a game and still be ranked a head of an unbeaten LSU team? With a loss, does LSU deserve to be ranked above unbeaten SC or OU teams?

Sure, there is media bias and flaws to the rankings. The rankings do have a way of working themselves out though. If SC goes undefeated, they will not fall from the top spot, but in a way they would have earned it. Same with LSU or any other school from a BCS conference. Yes, we have a harder road to the Orange bowl than SC. That's life, and the price you pay for playing in a tough conference . . . more often than not, an SEC school with 1 loss is ranked higher than any other BCS conference team with the same number of losses.

I just don't see how we are being screwed in the rankings just yet . . . it's too early to complain. We have seen a ton of upsets in the top 25 so far, we all know preseason rankings are not the final rankings either. You would have to win all season to stay ranked #1 from the start to finish, and I can't remember the last time that has happened. SC will not be given a gift loss, and allowed to stay in the top 3 if they lose a game while other teams are unbeaten. If it happens, I'll admit I'm wrong. But I don't see how LSU is an underdog this year, getting screwed by the national media, or some how ignored when most of our games will be on TV (featured on Gameday and CBS).

I'm saying look what it took for the polls to put us in the top 5... A national championship. A win actually dropped us out of the top 5 in the AP.

Actually, at the end of last season, before the bowls, we finished in the top 2 without a NC win.

We earned our spot in the top 5 THIS season, by winning the NC last season. Granted some NC schools, stay ranked #1 entering the up comming season, but it isn't a birth right. All we have to do is continue winning, and we will be ranked high. It's not like we have 5 undefeated seasons in a row and are being screwed. We won the NC and stayed in the top 5 and as a result have even more nationally televised games as last season (where only 2 were not on national TV) . . . I just have nothing to complain about yet, this is how college football works. It's always been that way, the only difference is that we are now among the top 5 in the nation.

Mich is usually over rated and ranked in the top 10 every year, they were #7 this year. They lost to an unranked ND team and they feel 10 spots. ND is still unranked. I think that is fair. Had Texas lost, they would have also fell about 10 spots if not more. FLst was treated fairly after getting beat by an equally ranked team. I haven't seen any strange rankings or unfair treatment. Now, if LSU losses badly to GA (while we are both unbeaten) and LSU falls 15 or 20 spots, then I think there is a problem. Or if LSU beats GA (while we are both unbeaten) and LSU falls a couple of spots, then something is wrong. Right now there is nothing to complain about.

I don't see how LSU has been screwed in the past with rankings when after our Sugar Bowl win against ILL we were in the top 10 with the most losses of any team in the top 10 that year. LSU is not ND, SC, or Texas. We know that going in, and all in all we have not been as successful as those teams in the last decade. Only recently have we established ourselves as a national power, and have been rewarded with high rankings.
