Well guys I survived my first trip to BR. I really enjoyed it except of course for the old fashioned ass whipping at Tiger Stadium. LSU was hot from the git go and it was just one of those nights for us.A few brief comments: 1. BR is neat and the LSU campus is very pretty. 2. We got there early and parked in the Law School lot. Several LSU tailgate groups ended up all around us. One group insisted that my wife and I join them so we spnet a lot of time with them. They did it up right, good food, drink and and company. We had some great conversations and some good natured ribbing. 3. We walked all over the campus and up and down Dalrymble thru the heart of the tailgaters. We got a lot of pregame ribbing, "tiger bait", etc. I just kind of set them back a little saying "you don't eat tigers do you?" That usually made them laugh and led to some good conversation. We met a lot of interesting people. 4. Tiger Stadium is a great atmosphere and place to play. The crowd is loud, but not as overwhelming as I had imagined. Auburn and Tennessee can get pretty loud too. 5. The only negatives came after the game as we walked back to our car but no big problems. We got some overzealous harrassment but pretty much just defused it as best we could. For the most part it seemed to be from younger troops who had been drinking way to much and apparently had not even gone to the game. If I was an LSU fan I would want to clean this stuff up as much as possible. 6. In spite of a lot of anti-Auburn stuff I read here along the way, it turns out that almost all the LSU people I talked to said it wasn't really Auburn but Tuberville they didn't like. We all agreed that nobody in the SEC really likes anyone else but there was almost unanimous agreement that the most disliked team by LSU is Alabama. We agreed with that. In summary, I enjoyed my first visit to LSU and would love to come down again in two years. I also enjoyed my "chats" here and wish you guys the best. Thanks to all of you who provide suggestions, directions, etc. We tried to eat at Mike Andersons Friday night but it was mobbed. We ate at Ralp's and Kucos (sp?) and the food was great. Go Tigers!! 31-7 just proves turnabout is fair play.
Great post, glad you had a nice time. I would have to agree with the Tuberville/Auburn thing. He showed us quite the disrespect on more than one occasion. I'm personally over it now, he's been fine the last 2 years and I think he and Nick get a long pretty well. Hope you feel welcome to come down again in a couple of years, good luck with the rest of the season.
If you thought that food was good, just wait til you get to eat at a better restaurant next time you visit. R&Ks is probably the worst seafood restaurant in BR. Glad you enjoyed your visit, though. Please come back...
by the way - you parked in an area that makes you walk with students on the way back to post-game parties. Most of the fraternity houses are near the law school, and a walk along Dalrymple Drive will be with students. Students drink an incredible amount of booze - nuf said. I enjoyed talking with AU fans I encountered for the most part.
I met you!!! You came up to my tailgating spot up the hill asking for directions to some other party you were invited to. You were a very nice man, and I appreciate the kind words you had to say. It was great meeting a fellow TigerForums poster. Best of luck to you and your team. I hope you guys win out!!!
Ralph and Kacoos used to be pretty good back in the day, but the last few times I dined there it was pretty lousy. Seems they went downhill after the acquisition by Picadilly. I don't even go there any more. We waited out a nearly two hour wait at Mike Anderson's Friday. We hung out in the bar, drinking and eating those great onion rings which tided us over nicely 'til we got our table where the food was fabulous, as usual. Enjoyed visiting with other LSU fans as well as Auburn fans while we waited. For the most part, the Aubbies were gracious and pleasant to talk to, although there was a table full of them next to us in the restaurant that had one or two obnoxious guys. They kept saying nasty things to try and egg us on, but we ignored them, for the most part. One of them, it turned out, though, was a psychic! He kept saying "31 to 7, 31 to 7!" Alas, his final score prediction was exactly right! :geaux:
Great post Proud Tiger. Goes to show you that I did not give you guys enough credit. I expected a lot of bad blood in the form of "Baton Rouge Sucks" posts both here and WEN, but I was unable to find too many of those at either place. Thanks for the kind words and the great posts here all season. It's been great chatting with all you. Now go beat Ole Piss.
Re: Re: My Trip to BR--A report If you really like the Mike Anderson's onion rings, you should go to their website and buy their cookbook. I bought it a few years back and it tells you how to make them. Amazingly easy and they come out PERFECT. I have made a few of their other dishes with great results. Boy that shrimp and crabmeat au-gratin is amazing.
