I believe OU did win their conference. They finished 8-0 and even the team that beat them in the championship game does not equal their conference record. I think we would be just as bad as the media to try and taint their accomplishments. Let’s take a 5000-foot view of this situation. What if it were our tigers that had been ranked #1 for almost the entire season. Finished 12-0 and lost in the championship game. Don’t give me this 28-point deficit chit either. You lose when the team scores more than you do, if it’s one-point or 40-points. We make it to the championship game and lose 34-13 to UF a three-loss team, and we still make it to the NC game. Defend us being there. When some of you attack OU for being there, you are taking away from the game in my opinion, and minimizing a win for LSU should that happen. OU didn’t ask the media for the labels they placed upon them. They are worthy of the respect of the LSU nation as our next opponent just as we are worthy of their respect. OU didn’t start the crap about being in or out of the Sugar win or lose. OU and LSU played by the rules that were in place and I challenge anyone to show in the criteria of the BCS where you cannot play for the NC if you don’t win your conference championship game. In the beginning I said that you should not play for the NC if you fail to win your conference CG. However, over time and reading what appears to be an onslaught of attacks on this fine football team, and listening to our own coach, I don’t think that way. There is not a damn team out there that would say “we didn’t win our conference championship game”, therefore we should not play for the NC. OU deserves to be where they are as much as USC or LSU. They won 12 games and only two were even close. It does not matter who they played. We have a few opponents that I wish we had not played too. The media is 90% responsible for all this spin and the USC peckerhead coach is the other 10%. It’s not my responsibility to defend OU, but I certainly don’t think we LSU fans should be contributors to the garbage. I don’t care if OU won their conference championship game or not, and I don’t care that they lost it by 28-points. I don’t know if this will make sense to you, but UF was beaten by a little above average Iowa team. I live in this area and have watched Iowa many times and they played the game of the year. UF is a much better team than that game and like it or not you know they are. UF beat LSU and that game did not define this LSU team, no more than the KSU game defines OU. Folks, I love the tigers and god knows I want this win. To bash OU is tarnishing our opponent and does not deserve that. I think LSU and OU would have rather played USC, not because OU didn’t win their CCG, but because of all of the chit from USC. I also believe that both LSU & OU would beat USC in head to head competition. I didn’t post this to offend or make anyone mad. I’m just tired of hearing the late season loss for OU; they didn’t win this or that. We’re better than that. We’re LSU! The LSU nation should understand more of what OU is going through, because LSU has been disrespected all season long. One of the very few opponents that have been more respectful of us is our opponent for tomorrow’s game. Sure they have some jerky fans, what team doesn’t? Here is to a memorable game and may the tigers be National Champions!
Excellent post ChuckE. I couldn't agree with you more. I have said it on these boards many times, tomorrow is the game for the NC. Both teams worked hard and earned the opportunity to play that game. The winner is the NC and deserving of the other admiration and congratulations. I'll be here whomever the victor is. All three teams had one loss. The decison of who plays in the SB should take in the whole season, not just the last game. Although I somewhat agree with this, I think usc would have been the prefered opponent due to the challenge they would have posed i.e. an easier matchup!
ChuckE, I understand what your saying and I think OU should be #1 by the current system if they win. But By the same token There could be a time to where LSU or anyone is in OU's shoes by losing their conference championship game except not making the championship game. I would like to know if this has happened to any teams in the past. if so, Is that fair to them? I have agreed with martin and others here that the current system is broken and just sucks....... Supposedly though, the prejudice humans are going to fix it though so a team can't fall through the cracks again. I wonder if they do away with the BCS like some of them would like to do. Would LSU have made it to the Sugar without the BCS? Maybe I'm incorrect for saying this...... I think it would be a cold day in hell before the voters would ever vote LSU #1 My justification for this is the whole Chris Fowler thing. they compared our losses, nevermind we beat more ranked teams or higher ranked teams than usc did. If they would've had thier way without the BCS OU vs USC imhp
In other words I think it was wrong for them to put USC#1. They have no logical justification for this. but after all they are the media darlings so .......... I don't think you would be saying this if it was left outside the Sugar and OU loss thier conference game and we won. I say no way we would've been in this game without the computers
I doubt it Mr Peabody, I'm bettin it would've been OU vs USC Everyone said OU would be in even if they lost
Sourdough: LSU would not have been in a BCS game had they lost the SECCG. More than Likely KSU would have been matched with Michigan, OU VS USC in the sugar. My point is: we don’t have to ride that horse to death. We all have opinions and that is fine, but to keep running down a good team and a program is not right. We can say all we want, but tomorrow night OU will be our opponent like it or not. We have what we have. Don’t expect big changes and the BCS is not going away. The very thing you have watched unfold with the USC love affair is a very good reason the BCS should not go away. This is not original but adding one more BCS game and matching #1-#4 and playing a one game championship in the 5th BCS bowl, will determine the NC. If we had that bowl today, the winner of our game would play USC for the NC. If they want to add that a team must win their conference as a prerequisite to playing for the NC then I say go for it! That is not the case this year!
