For those who want to pull the lever on the ejection seat, calm down. A few thoughts: -Georgia would've beaten ANYBODY IN THE COUNTRY by three touchdowns the way they played today. They were awesome. They could do no wrong. David Greene, David Pollack, Fred Gibson, and Odell Thurman each had the game of their lives at the same time. How often does that happen? -Sanford Stadium is a tough place to win anytime, but it's even tougher when you come in iffy at quarterback and the other team has been obsessed with beating you for over nine months. -We are young in several key positions, and we made mistakes. The two fumbles were deadly. You can tell that the offensive line misses the leadership and attitude of Stephen Peterman and Rodney Reed. You can also tell the secondary misses Jack Hunt. Hey, we played terribly, no doubt. But I think expectations may have been too high from the beginning. The positives: -I'm glad Jimbo Fisher re-discovered the I-formation, and our running game benefitted. We didn't see much more of it after the 3rd quarter though, because we fell so far behind we had to start chunking it. -I saw JaMarcus Russell grow quite a bit in this game. He threw the ball away rather than take a sack many times. This was a good learning experience game for him. -We never quit. We kept playing hard till the end, fighting for extra yardage, gang-tackling Georgia running backs. That is a sign of a WELL-COACHED team, not a poorly coached one. The mistakes that were made in this game were not of a fundamental nature; they are easily correctable, but it's just gonna take some time. I'll bet you one thing for sure; Xavier Carter will NEVER AGAIN mess up a touchback, I can promise you that. The things that need work: -Something must be done at right tackle. Nate Livings is simply not getting the job done. -Tackling must improve. Our defense was physically whipped for the first time in a long time, and that can't stand. More time needs to be spent on physical tackling drills, but really and truly, our guys need to just suck it up and play like last year. Marcus Spears knows how to tackle and get after people. They need to all be emulating him and following his lead. -The missed PATs are unacceptable. Try Gaudet again just for a bit, and just for PATs (because obviously Jackson has no problem with long field goals). If he cannot get it done, find somebody who can. -When faced with a team, like Georgia, who has two outstanding receivers, perhaps we should not play straight-man coverage all the time. Mixing in a little zone coverage and backing off on the blitz for just a few plays might be a good thing. -Our running backs fumbled three times because the Georgia defense was sticking them harder than anyone has all year, including Auburn. Gotta strap it on tight in conference play. Lesson has probably been learned (I hope) Bottom line: Georgia is dang good, and I will give credit where credit is due. I was wrong about them. If they play like that the rest of the year, they will roll to Miami and crush all in their path. That said, we gave them plenty of help they did not need, and it cost us. BUT, we are okay. We will be fine. We can still go 8-3 or even 9-2 and go to a major bowl and have a dang good year. I'll take that anytime. There will be no SEC title or national title. We need to accept that and move on. The focus now should be on having a 10-win season and making sure that we, as a team, especially the young guys, improve and get better every game. We need to invest in the future of the program, and I honestly think that, although this year is not going to turn out quite like we wanted, that LSU is now a program that will be a factor in the national title race every year. You can't tell me the future isn't bright when you see JaMarcus Russell throw a pass and Dwayne Bowe make a tightrope catch as he smokes a senior DB. Have faith, be strong, suck it up, and do not waver just because we've hit a bump in the road. Just one fan's opinion, of course.
UGA would not and will not beat OU. OU has way too much speed and a better defense than UGA, plus Peterson.
medtiger I disagree UGA played one of the best all around games I have seen any team play n a long time. They did not make mistakes or give up the big plays. They could have beaten anyone today including OU but who knows if they can play with the sme intensity every week. Only time will tell
I agree Peterson is impressive. However, I'm not ready to award the MNC to a team that can put but 28 on the Red Raiders, a team not known for playing defense. :dis:
I agree. OU was umimpressive against TT. I watched part of the game, and it was in no way a domination. Geez, TCU tacked 35 points on the clowns from Lubbock.
I think it is way too early to say which team is better. I bet before yesterday you would have said no way Gawga beats LSU 45-16. OU has yet to show how good they are while Gawga showed some signs yesterday against a team that offered very little resistance.
