I'm sure I will get reamed on this, but can we quit whining about Bill Clay and how horrible the defense will be until we actually KNOW who the defensive coordinator is ?

Thank you. Clay hasn't even been announced as the DC. And even if he ends up being the DC, everybody needs to shut up until he shows us what he does with his defense.

Ahah, you have come across the real crux of the problem. If Miles is loyal to this guy, he may not get fired until it's too late (i.e., until Miles get fired).

Yes he may have been let go at MSU and went to UAB. However, after looking at his profile on the OSU website I'm willing to give him a chance. Each team that he was DC he turned it around. While he was at MSU didn't they have a very good defense. Maybe that last season he was there it was bad but in the early 90's I seem to recall the MSU had a quality defense.

He really improved the OSU defense considering they don't get the quality players like OU, Nebraska, and UT. Not to mention OSU plays in a tough Big12 south where they have to compete with some power houses for recruits. I think if he can get the OSU defense to hold their own I think he can keep LSU at it's current level of defense with the great athletes LSU has. I'm willing to give him a shot.

I am not sure that giving up 25 points per is what you would call "holding their own".

But in all fairness to Clay, he did lose his All-conference DB early on in the season and that had to change a lot of what he was planning to do.

I have a friend that went to Oklahoma st. and he told me that Bill Clay is an excellent D.C. so lets give him a chance. We have a lot of talent he can work with.

It's the same "dooms day" mind set that so many folks were spouting off when Miles was hired. I agree - please give Clay or whomever the DC is a chance. Just because he was "fired" at Miss. State doesn't mean crap. He went on to UAB where his defenses were among the best country. Joe Lee Dunn has been hired and fired from numerous places including Miss. State and when he was at Moo U everyone was all ga-ga over Dunn because of their defense. Then right after the two CBs left their defense wasn't very good and he was canned.
It's similar to the Norm Chow phenonemon going on right now. When Chow was at Arkansas or BYU you didn't hear hardly anything about him. Now that he's at USC with the top-notch athletes the Trojans have, he's become God's gift to offense.

Bottom-line is give Coach Miles and whomever will be on his staff a chance.
