The ones with the most to lose were the ones who had nothing to give to the people of the state anyway... Blanco fumbled, looked incoherent at times, and was generally silly sounding, and alternately at times, outright unintelligent. Hunt Downer's ridiculous ending of, "Join the Hunt..." was ridiculous. He also ripped off other candidates when given a chance to come up with his own "three corp traits" that made him who he was...He offered nothing original, and leaned on being a general in the Reserves a little too much for my liking... Buddy Leach is a total nincumpoop. On camera, as well as in his commercials, he comes across as totally unintelligent, devoid of speaking ability, and overall, just looks like a really big idiot. Who else runs an ad for governor attacking the present governor, who isn't even running? Last night, he fumbled badly, and showed why he's among the dimmest of the dim bulbs in this race for governor. Richard Ieyoub, besides showing off a nose-or is that a freaking BEAK?-that's the size of Rhode Island, generally came across as intelligent, but nonspecific. He lost an opportunity to really translate what his ideas and goals were last night. Blanco did the best of the Democrats. You all know who obviously did the best amongs the Republicans. He talks fast, but he gets alot said, and he was unafraid to back away from any subject, from his race to being called out on a donation from the Aints...He even dogged them out at one point, saying he wanted them here, even after Sunday nights debacle! He is without question the most intelligent candidate. No other candidate has had experience with health care, with higher education, and with government at the levels that Jindal has. None of the other candidates has been involved in budgetary concerns like Jindal was as Sec. of DHH and the UL System President...None of them who do have any relevant political experience have performed the Herculean task of turning a budget from hundreds of millions in the red to hundreds of millions in the black in approximately 1,000 days. Jindal is the best candidate, with the most experience. For some, his ethnicity is a problem. For others, the party he's a member of will be the ONLY reason they vote for a lesser candidate. Thank God they'll be in the minority...
I went to the community college forum a month or so again - all of the candidates said the usual stuff about more money, supporting the CCs etc (except for one candidate - he took the opportunity to talk about health care) - Jindal was the only candidate with specifics - the exact role of the cccs, how he would fund them, etc.
What is his plan for higher education, LSU, and education in general TE? Anything radical, like say, closing two-thirds of the four year colleges in the state and replacing them with community colleges? That's radical, but might just be a useful idea.
