First and foremost.... GEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUXXXXXXXXXX TIGERSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now that I've gotten that out of the way, here are some thoughts that have developed in my gray matter since about 6:30pm yesterday... LSU's defense came of age. They gave up 400+ plus yards of total offense to Jawja, but no one here will doubt for a second that LSU's defense totally jarred, rattled, hurried, beat up, injured, mauled, and GOT INSIDE THE JAWJA OFFENSIVE PLAYERS HEADS YESTERDAY. The defensive backs played one of the best games I've seen in Tiger Stadium (my base of knowledge extends only to the 1995 season, so almost a decade). Cory Webster-if he merely plays average the rest of this year, again leads the SEC in picks-is a gone pecan. The NFL is calling. Anyone who saw that amazing final pick and how he tipped it to himself with his LEFT hand behind him while he was running past the ball for the pick can tell why this guy has 1st round draft pick written all over him. David Greene never saw that kind of pressure, coverage disguises, and blitz packages before in his tenure as UGA's starting quarterback. It showed. Greene was rattled, and it showed. I will say this for Jawja, though. If Fred Gibson is 100% healthy for this game and plays, it is a different game. Totally. On the other side of the ball... Jimbo's offense executed VERY poorly. I dare say there were more mental mistakes against Georgia than there were versus Western Illinois. Holding calls-while not being called evenly both ways-were ridiculous. Joseph Addai, for whatever reason, is NOT hitting the holes with authority. He seems to have Rondell Mealey syndrome in that respect. Rondell as as senior would gingerly hit the holes instead of blowing through them, and our offense suffered because of it. Shyrone Carey again proved to me that while he may not be able to take the pounding of an entire season, he is the best running back on LSU's team at this point. He hits the hole with authority, he is fast, he's quick, and he's got the moves down the field that are big league. He can't run off tackle with any amount of frequency, and it pains me that he's not about 6-1, but will we need to see him get more PT if our offense is going to succeed. Matt Mauck played a gutsy game. Had he held onto the ball and not fumbled on that option run, he converts the first down, and we might have had no need for that gutsy, crazy, miraculous heave he tossed to Skyler Green on a busted route (Green admitted he didn't hear the play, and just decided to run as fast as he could to the end zone to try to beat his man. He did). He played well, if unspectacularly. He is our man, he's our horse, and he's our leader. He will not lose a game for us. He has proven that he can win games for us. Anyone who saw my posts on another board about this player realizes that saying these things for me is no gush, and no simple task. I have been one of the biggest Mauck detractors in some eyes than any other LSU fan out there. LSU played a gritty, tough game. Our athletes were superior, as I predicted. The athletes talent was superior. But, what happened that I was MOST PLEASED WITH, was our coaching was superior. Our defense held one of the best offenses in the country to a measley field goal. We gave up position to UGA's offense on SEVEN occassions in the first half (50 yard line or better), and they netted 3 points. One busted play, and we actually had a good defense called (Cover 2 on a screen pass is a decent call)...and that's it. Against one of the "Golden Boys" of offensive minded college football. Against one of the best quarterbacks in college football. Congrats go ALL the way around. From the band to the crowd (unbelieveable...I'll post later about that) on down.... Congratulations... P.S.-->Oh yeah...I was right about David Pollack. He's a puddin, and the absence of Sullivan to take away the pressure shows. Beyond that, though, Andrew Whitworth TOTALLY ERASED HIS PRESENCE. He had 2 tackles, 1 assist, one TFL, and a half a sack, and that was coverage...A total non-entity...and Whitworth made him look AVERAGE...
Thanks for the thoughts...Can anyone explain to me what the "star" ratings beside a post denote? Is it quality? If so, I've got some work to do if it's only a single star...
