I was kind of hoping that Miles would have used the tight ends in the passing game. Of course, watching their tight ends chew up chunks of yards against our defense just made the fact that our TE's were unused seem like more a glaring omission.

We know Jones can catch AND run, and I think we need to find out what Zinger's made of. I know we have plenty of other weapons, but no army goes to war with only rifles.

Jones and Zinger could be the heavy artillery, and that would actually open up a few things for the other receivers as well.

I was thinking the same thing. And this coaching staff has said that they would use the TE's more... but it seems coaches always say this & hardly ever do it.

My only guess would be that they tried to keep the offense relatively simple to let them get in a grove with it being such a big game, season opener & on the road.

We've got a tough SEC slate ahead of us. I doubt that Les wanted to show all of his cards. I don't think we even got to the flop yet.

I think they'll be used soon enough.

i agree with SF and mtn. i wanted to see the TE's used more too. however there's a good possibility Miles went a little vanilla to show some different things to UT at home. esp if our WR depth takes a hit with injuries, the te's will become a necessity.

We are going to have to use the TE's and RB's out of the backfield against UT. AZ St. did get pressure and sack Jamarcus when they blitzed and you better belive John Chavis is gonna load up the box and bring the heat on Jamarcus until he proves he can beat it.

I am sure we will see them in the passing game to come...especially with our base offense being the one back two tights formation...

Exactly. Jimbo uses the entire season to set up special plays and try to hide tendencies.

I'm not sold on this one based on LSU's second half need in the ASU game for points. You don't let a game slip away because you want to "hide your cards" for SEC play. I suspect we will see only a few passes to TEs this season, where other teams show weaknesses in coverage. I hope I am wrong and you are right. It's all about Russell's development and being able to have enough system smarts and passing game finesse to utilize TEs and other secondary receivers along with Jimbo's faith in him. Now that he has opening game confidence of being a starter and a big "W" behind him, let's hope Jimbo has enough confidence in him to start opening things up and using TE passes, screens to the FB, and other creative plays that keep a defense off balance and punish overpursuit.
