I always liked "Have Gun Will Travel" and "Wanted Dead or Alive." Two of my favorites. :thumb: Wish there was a good western series on TV now. I miss them. :bncry:
I never cared for the singing cowboys. I liked the cowboys who had a bad streak in em. For me on TV as a kid it was: Maverick Have Gun Will Travel Lawman Wanted Dead or Alive Rawhide
I loved Rawhide. What happened to Mr. Favor ? Didn't he die young or suffer some tragedy. Can't remember.
I seem to remember that he died in a boating accident in South America about a year after the show went off the air.
I guess I just liked all the Western's Rowdy Yates and his temper. going off half cocked ( western term ) Roy singing with the Son's of the Pioneers. that Walk John Wayne had. Robert Mitchum drinking in the "Son's of katie Elder" the look on Clint Eastwood's face when he found out Shirley McClain wasn't a nun in "Two Mules for sister Sarah" the way Hopalong always dressed. And the way tonto always called the long ranger Kimosabe however it's spelled. Gabby hayes showing up in every western as an old codger, that guy got around! man i could go on for days. thanks great post.
I must agree with JS. The westerns shaped the lives of my generation. Gary Cooper in "High Noon" standing alone to protect a town that didn't appreciate it -- because it was the right thing to do. John Wayne in "The Shootist" who said, "I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them." Henry Fonda in "The Oxbow Incident" refusing to go along with a lynching. My favorite western sidekick also had the best name in Hollywood -- Slim Pickens.
