First, I want to apologize to the whole board. My posts yesterday were downright juvenile. I was more venting than anything else, so please forgive me.

    Second:

I think LSU held a small edge on Defense against Auburn, only to hold them to a touchdown. I think Auburn held more than a small edge on offense, tho. Irons is a beast. At least as good as Addai was. However, in all objectivity, Auburn had better hope he doesn't get injured, because I'd say he represents about half of their total offensive weaponry. Now, to Auburn's credit, they didn't rely on him for the entire game. When Cox did pass he usually did so accurately (at least in the last 75% of the game), which can be less said for JR. Basically, Auburn had an explosive ground attack with a conservative pass attack. It was quite a performance. I think we should've lost worse than we did, considering Auburn's offense. I think we didn't lose that bad because our defense is just that hardcore. So kudos to the Chinese Bandits.

All in all, I'm not as disappointed as I was last night. We came to fight, and we fought. Everyone knew it was going to be the little things that decided the game. I thought it'd be turnovers. JR had no interceptions, and no one fumbled anything. If not turnovers, then penalties. In the end, it came down to a few bad calls (which regrettably, one has to take as part of the game), which made the winner.

I've no shame in losing to Auburn at home. I won't complain if Auburn beats us at Jordan-Hare for the next 10 years, so long as they always lose to us at Death Valley. That'll keep the media hungry. As much as people may wanna smack me for this, now that this game has been decided, I hope Auburn can go undefeated and have a shot at representing the SEC, the best conference hands down, in the NC game.

On the other hand, if Auburn loses a single game from here on, I'm pulling for them to lose as many games as it takes for us to pass them and take the SEC west crown back.

So, all's well in my head.

Irons, didn't look that good Saturday. We held him to 62 yards (i think) and Auburn had ONE good drive all game long. LSU looked better on offense due to the WR's and our D looked better. It was clearly a case of the better team was robbed. . .

Irons looked good against a mighty mighty defense, he made positive gains with 4 or 5 guys hanging on him. His stats were not great but he is one of the best backs in college football. When you hold him and the AU offense to seven points you should be able to win but LSU missed too many chances to score.

I agree that Irons looked really good considering our defense is top notch in 1A football. I'm very concerned about our running game. We could have won Saturday is Russell wouldn't have taken that late sack/tackle, but Russell, I thought, had an excellent game overall. Our running game is suspect and it seems our pass D isn't totally invulnerable.

That's funny because I almost PM'd you that you'd feel better in the morning. We'd all be better off if we didn't post when angry or drunk, but then the Forum would be pretty boring.:hihi:

Hester had a better yard per carry average than Irons. Until the middle of the 3rd quarter Auburn was -25 yrds rushing. Irons was held to only 62 (i think) yards. Which is the lowest this season, if not ever, yards he's gained in a game. And the total average yards per carry was Auburn 1.9, LSU 1.8. I'm not saying Irons isn't good, But to say Auburn had a "slight edge on Offense" is wrong. All the stats say to the contrary.

On another note. If not for Russell we'd never have even had a shot at the endzone with 4 seconds left. How about forgiving him the sack?

I didn't say AU looked better on offense I said Irons looked good. You said
That has nothing to do with the argument of who's offense looked better. LSU definitely put up bigger numbers and moved the ball at times, Auburn definitely looks more balanced than we do on offense. Both defenses are flat out killers, neither offense is going to set the world on fire at this point. Also Hester didn't have enough carries to even consider his rushing stats.

Of course I forgive Russell the sack. I don't expect him to be perfect. I actually thought he played exceptionally well for the most part. As far as Iron's average yardage, whatever. Our defense is awesome and made it hell on Irons, but if you couldn't tell what difference Irons made on the game, you missed something. Our running attack was nowhere near as dangerous as Auburn's.

I'm not saying Auburn is the better team, but I'll say they grinded out the victory on Saturday. Refs make bonehead calls. Even if they seem to be one-sided, sometimes we do benefit from erroneous calls. We can hold the refs accountable for screwing up, but we have to be men enough to look Auburn in the eye and say good game. I am proud of the way we played, much more than I was in many games last season.

You guys held Irons in check, though he did get tough important yards when it counted...on the TD drive.

However, Hester did not have a better YPC average. He rushed 3 times for 0 yards. Irons had 70 yds on 25 carries.

Just a reminder, we held the #3 team (at that time) in the nation to 7 points....
