Mr. President, I see where you have invited the University of Southern California football team to the White House as the team that was voted the National Championship by the members of the media who vote in the Associated Press poll. I sincerely hope that you also invite the LSU football team to the White House as well. It is a presidential tradition that winners of sports championships get invitations to be honored for their accomplishments. The winners of the Superbowl, the World Series, the Stanley Cup, the NBA and champions of college sports other than football are the clear cut champions of their sport. As the former owner of the Texas Rangers I'm sure you understand that the team that wins the Championship under the rules that are in force at the time is the recognized Champion. Under the rules of the NCAA as agreed upon by all of the colleges who are members of the NCAA beginning in 1998 it was commonly agreed by all members that the undisputed National Champion of college football's Division 1A would be the winner of the bowl game that the BCS (Bowl Championship Series) that the BCS system placed into its declared National Championship Bowl for that particular year. For the 2003 football season the BCS, a system that takes into account not only the AP writers and the Coaches polls but also utilizes several computer polls in order to minimize the posibly predjudicial human element declared that Louisiana State University and the University of Oklahoma were the two football teams most worth of playing for the National Championship in the Sugar Bowl, this years designated National Championship Bowl site. LSU won the game and was awarded the Waterford Crystal Football Trophy symbolic of the National Championship of the NCAA as agreed upon by all members of the NCAA.. Due to the fact that an undefeated Oklahoma team that had been ranked number 1 all season lost their conference championship game Oklahoma dropped to number 3 in the human voters polls but since the BCS computer polls don't take into account when a team loses Oklahoma was still ranked number one by the BCS system even though the AP and coaches polls dropped them to number 3. The AP and the coaches polls had USC ranked first with LSU second and Oklahoma third. Southern California had a great season and if there had been another system in place other than the BCS system that USC was in full agreement with it might have been a game between USC and LSU for the National Championship instead of LSU and Oklahoma. The fact is that under the system that all members of the NCAA agreed upon LSU is the true National Champion due to their Sugar Bowl victory over Oklahoma. Yes, Southern California was awarded the National Championship by the Associated Press. The AP is only 1/9th of the BCS equation in factoring the teams deemed worthy of playing for the Championship. Mr. President, you have done a great job in the aftermath of 9-11 and the Iraq situation and I support you 100%. Knowing that you are a fair man and a sports fan I believe that it is only fair that if you are going to honor a college football team that won 1/9th of the 2003 National Championship it is only fair that you honor the LSU team that won at least 8/9ths of the National Championship with an invitation to the White House. Respectfully Yours Neil G
I am a big Bush supporter, and I hope he remembers we followed the rules that were in place at the start of the 2000 election in Florida and he is the President because of it. Looking at the other candidates I cannot say I would not vote for him if he does not, but I know I would never think of him the same again.
He'll probably invite both, hopefully not at the same time. If he invites both for the same time, I hope Nick brings the "crystal ball" to get a picture with Bush.
I tend to agree...No way I am going to not vote or *gasp* vote for a Howard Dean. My vote will still, as always, go to George W. Bush. I also find it hard to believe that Bush personally made the call to "dis" his sister state to the east and invite and team he has no affiliation with. Bush, as we all know, is from Texas. I just find it hard to believe that he wouldn't give the Tigers a chance...
Also, I really don't think not inviting USC would do a thing with California. California isn't like Louisiana. There are two, maybe three, cities there with more population than our entire state.
