MSU football player booked on attempted sexual battery

A Mississippi State football player was arrested Wednesday night on a charge of attempted sexual battery, the university said.

Adron L. Chambers, 20, was immediately suspended from the university and the team.

Chambers, of Pensacola, Fla., is a general business administration major and a defensive back. He was arrested by the University Police Department after an alleged assault had occurred earlier Wednesday at a campus housing facility. The victim was another MSU student.

"Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students, and we began an immediate investigation," said Mike White, dean of students. "Based on the gathered evidence, Mr. Chambers was formally charged Wednesday night."

According to MSU student policies regarding sexual assault, Chambers will be suspended from the university pending an on-campus hearing.

The felony charges will be handled separately according to state judicial procedures.
