You aren't paying close enough attention.

"The (policy) evolved because the flags were being used, not as a symbol of cultural heritage, but the flags were being used as symbols of bigotry, a symbol of hostility. They were being used to inflame different groups and we're simply not going to tolerate that at Skyline High School," Stumpf said.

Personally, I would have come to school waving an American flag, but that's just because I enjoy pushing my limits.

"the American flag" wasn't banned from display. Currently controversial objects that could be worn to school were banned. Since the children chose the flag to represent that, it became part of the ban.

I don't understand what the problem is. I basically said that the flag itself wasn't a sign of hatred, but that it was being used for it...

It was BS that they originally banned the American flag & not the Mexican one. And if the American flag is being used to advance hatred against a group of people, it should be able to banned temporarily until the situation passes over.

Just wondering why when I said "in this instance, the American flag was being used as a symbol of racism" you would say not necessarily? The quote you used from the principal earlier in the thread in facts confirms his banning them due to the fact he believed the flag was being used as a symbol of bigotry and hostility. Guess I didn't get the meaning of your post from the other day?

Just because they are mexican doesn't mean they are non-citizens... or are you just referring to the small percentage that aren't?

The school is 41% hispanic. That's huge! Isn't Louisiana still something like 4% hispanic?

I didn't read your original post carefully enough apparently because I didn't see "in this instance" the first time. The reference to the confederate flag threw me off a little bit.
