I read about this and nearly became sick to my stomach. Who the hell do these students think they are, saying that a great World War II hero like Pappy Boyington is undeserving of a memorial at his Alma Mater? I swear, some college students of today really piss me off. They should be thankful of the sacrifices our fathers and grandfathers made back then to secure our freedom today. It's because of them that we're not being ruled by the Nazi's or the Japanese. It's also because of them that these students have the right to make the following ridiculous statements.

Man, after reading that I'm kind of suprised they didn't adopt a resolution to issue an apology to the families of the japanese pilots he shot down and to offer federally funded reparations for the costs incurred by the japanese during his 20 month imprisonment.

The ones that piss you off here are two female student senators. It is important to remember that American campuses are largely female-majority in the 21st century. Don't be surprised at an increasingly idealistic and female point of view coming from students in the coming decades. The faculties and graduate schools are still largely male domains, but your average American undergraduate is an oversheltered and fairly naive 19-year old girl.

Fortunately, they get wiser as they get older, as do their male counterparts.

I see that. I guess I just have a hard time swallowing this pill. Hell, even when I was a Junior and Senior in college, I was wondering where the hell some of the freshman came from. They come into college with this illusioned, "I'm going to change the world" mentality - and all I could think was, "You're 18-19 years old, you're a freshman in college; go out, get drunk, have fun and be a college student." That's what I did and look how I turned out...

Regardless, this decision is a complete slap in the face, not only to the memory of Pappy Boyington, but to every veteran who served in some capacity for this country.

Student senator Jill Edwards, according to minutes of the student government's meeting last week, said she "didn't believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce."

If Ms. Edwards had been present in Nanking during 1937 she would have a different opinion.

Thousands of former Marines and contributing UW alumni are writing to President Emmert right now. Darling Jill is going to lose this one.

Bless their little hearts. Hope they've got big boobs as doesn't look like they're gonna go far on brains. And to think that there's a couple of mamas and daddys out west somewhere paying for these airheads to matriculate. Anyway, 19 year old college girls should be wrestling with such decisions as "what color thong am I gonna wear today ?", not deciding on statues for war heroes.:hihi:

Hey, I'm not far from you. I was lumped in that category just 2 years ago - technically, I'm probably still in that category. But you know what they say, "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch".
