"LSU Football made history Friday, becoming the first college football team to achieve near unanimous team participation in the recently announced Fanatics and OneTeam Partners co-branded player jersey program. The customizable Nike jerseys, which will feature the name and number of every football student-athlete who opts into the program, will be available for purchase prior to the 2022 season, and players will be compensated for each of their jersey sales." https://247sports.com/college/lsu/A...ustom-jerseys-Fanatics-NIL-players-182250972/
Wished they could have gone with a better company because I will never support or purchase any product made by Nike. I'm not going to get all political about it, but I think most know the reason why.
Well...Nike has the LSU contract, so no one else can make a licensed jersey for now. I think that deal only runs through 2022, though, so it could change after this coming season. I don't wear jerseys, personally.
I'm interested in seeing what percentage these players will receive. You guys notice the affiliation is with Fanatics™? My reference to that involves a few areas. One, Bama's official athletic site has had an affiliation with them for several years. If you're on the site and follow their "shop" links you're shopping within the Fanatics framework. UA makes money there. Secondly, I've had an affiliation with Fanatics for several years getting paid every time someone purchases. A pie can be sliced a lot of ways which makes me wonder how much of "hit" is Fanatics taking here. Will players get the same percentages as site stores? How much of this pie is One Team Partners receiving? Theoretically any LSU football merchandise revenue could be shared with players. I don't know. Would schools athletic departments share that revenue? *I found it interesting when looking for LSU apparel there wasn't any link/store set up on lsusports.net/ There's an LSU Fanatics site, just no links I've seen on the official LSU site.
I don't wear Jerseys either, but I am considering getting a Burrow one to maybe wear or have as a keepsake. My question is, are players allowed to get other jerseys made with other companies or does Nike own all those rights?
This may be the first NIL story I like. I like the concept of Tiger stadium filled with fans wearing jerseys that help compensate players. It's a good next step back to in the direction of sanity.
I have nothing against this jersey idea or Nike. But it sure seems like it is a risky $100 investment when the player could be in College Station the next season.
