Do you know the origin of purple and gold as LSU's colors? It's
    an interesting story.

I remember something about a game against Tulane, and some assistant coach that went into a New Orleans store for some ribbons, and they only had Mardi Gras colors... is that close?

    Yeah, you're real close.

For the first intercollegiate football game in Louisiana, between
LSU and Tulane in 1893, Dr. Charles Coates (the chemistry
professor for whom Coates Hall is named, and LSU's first
football coach) went into a Baton Rouge store to buy some ribbons to decorate the LSU players' uniforms. His original
intent was to buy ribbons in the Mardi Gras colors of purple,
green and gold....but the store was out of green. Therefore, he settled on the purple and gold that we still have today.

That's the way I've always heard it. We were playing our first game against Tulane and the only ribbons they had were Mardi Gras colors. Tulane took all the green ribbons, so LSU took the purple and gold ones.
Don't know if this is 100% accurate, that's what I've always heard

That gold looks a little too much like UCLA. And, remember, our "shoulder stripe" is called the "UCLA Stripe" because UCLA was apparently the first team to wear them (I know we've changed it the last few years so that it's only a half a stripe).

I prefer the old "faded yellow" pants with the small side stripe from the '70's. I think back to the early Risher years. That's my favorite uniform.

And, while I loved the white helmet, I hope they never wear them AGAIN. I've got Nall's helmet and I got my godchild (he was 3 mos. old at the time) Rohan Davey's white helmet (BOTH SIGNED), so if we never wear the white helmet again, those pieces will be HUGE collector's items in years to come. NOT THAT I WOULD EVER SELL.

I wouldn't mind seeing LSU going old school and wearing the old "Bert Jones" helmet (as I call it) with the Tiger in a circle with "LSU" in small letters at the bottom.

The "numbers on the side of the helmet" (like Bama) has been done. M$U wore theirs for the Egg Bowl this past year.

Funny, that's the first thing I thought when I saw that pic, too.

Leave the "gold" alone.....just bring back the purple jerseys!!!!!

Yeah, the original colors were navy and white. We were a military school then so those were the traditional colors to use. The purple and gold ribbons were used to jazz up the uniforms and they decided to just drop then navy.
