    EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Lakers have signed free agent guard Maurice Carter it was announced on Aug. 13. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

    Carter, a 6-5 guard from LSU, most recently played for the for the Texas Rim Rockers of the USBL where he averaged 28 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in nine games.

    Prior to the Rockers, Carter was a member of the Kansas City Knights of the ABA. During the 2000-01 season with the Knights, Carter averaged 23.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 30 games. Carter has also played professionally in the CBA and IBL.

    Carter, who played all four seasons (1995-99) at LSU, averaged 12.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 108 games. Carter finished his college career as the 19th all time scorer in LSU history with 1,299 points.
