LSU head football coach Les Miles did an interview with channel 9 in which he said that he is reversing the policy Saban had of not allowing frehmen to interview with the press.

That means more loose talk from Ryan Perrilloux. Miles will not be able to control players and that is bad news.

While I don't personally think Freshmen should be allowed to talk to the media, everyone has their personal rules...

I really have no problem with this, Les will be able to control his players and allowing them to talk has nothing to do with how he will punish players if they run their mouth..

Whats your problem with Les Miles? It's getting old.

I have no problem with Les Miles. Just hope that he will look more like DiNardo (1995,1996,1997) and Saban than DiNardo(1998,1999) and Curley Hallman. Hope he keeps players under control, win 8-9 games, keeps the stadium full, gets our games nationally televised and take us to bowl games. Freshmen are immature, more like school kids. They tend to say and do stupid things which might generate controversy, create team chemistry problems and take attention of the game. Its a bad idea. I would have liked to see him wait a season, establish control within the program before letting the kids talk.
My fear for Meyer has nothing to do with it.

    Just curious:
Did Miles have any problems with player control at OSU?
What is the policy at other schools concerning players talking to the media?

I don't like to question decisions like this. Miles has his reasons and he can always change his mind. I think we all need to realize that just because Saban's style worked doesn't mean that others won't.

RP was not under Miles's control when he running his mouth. Things are different when you can be forced to sit games and run sprints at practice.

I really wish coach Miles would have kept Saban's policy in place.

I agree. That would've been best. However, not mentioned above is that in the interview he said it would be on a "case by case basis". From what he said, it sounded like he might only allow very mature freshmen to talk to the media, and/or keep them on a very short leash. He never said that he was going to have an open policy of any freshman saying what they wanted to the media, so I think we'll just have to wait and see what he means. I admit that the rule Saban had worked very well, and it probably needed to be general as it was. But I did feel a little bad for JV in 03 when he had such an amazing year but couldn't speak to the media. Maybe Coach Miles just wants to leave open the possibilities of exceptions.

Let's not get too worked up about this yet.
