i posed the questions to "Martin Blank", not a peanut-gallery also-ran. And there were three questions, not two, Otis.

Coaching is just not X & O's. This team seemed not to be focused and flat. The mess ups on the kick off and punt return showed this. Both players were quoted in the paper as saying "I took my eyes off the ball for just a second", focused players avoid these mistakes. I agree that they the team did decent in the 1st half. In the 2nd they just seemed to go flatter and flatter. Maybe a little emotion or scolding from the coach would of helped get thier mind back in the game.

allow me to answer my own questions:

On the first two: I don't know, i'm don't have the competence in football coaching to answer those question.

On the third: Slightly, however, i was always the first to point out when G. W. Bush was running for President that speaking ability does not correlate to intelligence. I always pointed out Ross Perot's VP running mate, the Genuis from Stanford? The man came across as a bumbling retard when debating Gore and Quail. Anyway, yes, i am a hypocrite,

And also, i have a feeling that Les Miles is an excellent football coach. He wants his players to play with poise, and he appears to coach with poise (never losing his temper). This is an example to his players, and a plus in my book. He apparently is a great recruiter. He got Pelini. We routinely throttle Mediocre teams.

There are many more pluses which we take for granted....

yeah, losing sucks, but i'm still excited about LSU football:helmet::crystal::helmet:

So how do you know that didn't happen? Were you on the sidelines? Sometimes what is NOT said goes alot further than jumping down a mans throat. What affected you more? Your dad scoulding you after a mistake or using eye contact and expression to make you feel 2 inches tall? Both have an effect.

I'm sure Miles doesn't go into halftime, serve a bunch of Koolade and talk about fishing. Remember Florida 2003? Remember the "brook trout look"? Yes...that was the almighty Sabans team as flat and looking as unprepared as any team Miles has sent out. The 7 before the half and the 9 more in the first 2 minutes of the second did that number on the entire team. No coach in the world can light a fire under a team who seems bent on self destruction...no matter what their last name is. Turnovers dug our grave...Florida just covered us up.

Hey, my mistake, I thought this was a forum for discussion, not your private "Frogleg/Martin Blank" inbox. I must've clicked the wrong button.

Wow, you seemed to be pretty sure on your opinion of the guy yesterday.

Classy. The personal attacks go along way to advance your point. No "peanut-gallery" bs there bub. Or how about this one?

    Now, you were saying...???

I think Miles is a B to B+ coach. Who would I want over him? In no particular order: Richt, Meyer, Tubs, Mack Brown, Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Jeff Tedford, Ferentz, and Tressel. I'd probably also swap him for Petrino (shady?), Bellotti (defense?), Callahan (suited to college game?)and Tommy Bowden (inconsistent?), but I keep them on the maybe list for the reasons in parenthesis. JoePa and Bobby Bowden don't count. So I'd put Miles in that mix. Think about it for a second - what's the difference between the #11 coach and the #16 coach? You're splitting hairs, at best.

And I don't know if it's archived, but I've already bored the masses with a screed listing the reasons LSU fans would have freaked out had it hired most of the Top 10 guys at the time they were hired. In sum, Richt, Stoops, Tedford, Ferentz(?), Petrino and Bellotti were co-ordinators taking their first HC job when hired. Meyer, Tressel, T. Bowden and, to some extent, Brown had only succeeded at small time schools. Carroll and Callahan were failed NFL guys. Remember how every LSU fan was ADAMANT that Skip had to hire the sitting head coach of a successful BCS program?

I'd direct you to my prior post if you can find it. Tressel was particularly interesting - a I-AA guy jumps all the way to Ohio State. Imagine LSU hiring Stoker at Northwestern St., for example.

You'd be amazed how many excellent attorneys sound 100 times worse than Les Miles in front of a judge/jury. I'd prefer he be a little slicker, but being a poor public speaker is not a great indicator of intelligence or competence. There's a lot of very successful people who couldn't introduce a candidate for dog catcher at a Rotary Club.

How important is what Miles says for public consumption, anyway? The very term "coachspeak" means bland, vague, and devoid of specific content. It is far more important what he says in a halftime lockerrom, or an OL blocking drill, or in Jarvis Jones' living room, that what he says to a hunchbacked newspaper flunkie underneath Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

    Martin Blank,

I appreciate your responses to the questions. You appear to be a knowledgeable and articulate guy. One more if i may:

Everyone says that LSU has world class football talent. How would you compare our talent to Florida, Auburn, USC, etc...
