It was the third game with a new coach and new system. Smoker got hurt in the game. MSU missed three field goals. The second stringer qb--Damon Dowdell hadn't nearly as many reps as Smoker in a new offensive system. The real fluke was a onside kick that bounced off the then 3rd sting qb Drew Stanton. But, if MSU had just missed only two field goals La tech would have lost. But, MSU was in the 3rd game with a new coach. I guarantee that if MSU played LaTech now, it would be a big MSU blowout.
