http://www.palmbeachpost.com/sports/content/sports/epaper/2005/08/17/a3c_uffoot_0817.html Meyer says Leak's offense almost 'pathetic' UF, Leak not in the grove. http://www.floridatoday.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050817/SPORTS0404/508170363
I'm so glad to hear this. I'm so sick and tired already of everyone annointing Pope Urban "the Legend" Meyer God's gift to football. His offense is a spread option out of the shotgun and he's trying to run it at UF with QB Chris Leak, who's been nothing but a drop back passer his whole life. Plus, I still question whether you really want to have your QB exposed to being hit that much, especially with the ferocity that SEC caliber LBs and Safeties bring. You'd better have a good back up!
You hear a lot of: "Meyer played in a weaker conference with Utah & now he's in a much better conference BUT he's got better players too" - that won't matter. I have a few issues with this line of thought. One, the players might be more talented, but QBs get injured even more easily now that the guys tackling them are twice the size of the old ones. Florida has no replacement for Leak if he gets injured. I also doubt Florida's talent level. It's a lot of hype & hasn't proven anything. Also, having Alex Smith at Utah was something no other team in that conference could claim - so there's the question of whether his talent really did increase proportionately to his conference jump.
yeah no teams have bad practices. ridiculous to make that assessment from this. its ok to hate the media love for UF and Meyer but some of you are ate up with it. UF may end up with a better record that LSU. does that mean Miles sucks? then what?
Its funny, I remember hearing how much better Chris Leak was than JR during recruiting. I remember Chris Leak's diary at ESPN and I kinda checked it out from time to time. I'm not trying to knock Chris Leak at all, Its not like JR has been on fire either but its just kinda funny seeing this news out of Florida. Meyer better get ready for the criticizm when things don't geaux well, he's no longer at BYU or Louisville or wherever he came from, I don't remember?
