Here's the top 15 of the week one AP poll. If you use preseason ranking and expectations as your main criterion to decide if Les Miles did a good job this year, then a LOT of people aren't happy right now. This is no defense of Miles at all - If LSU gets blown out of the Peach Bowl and ends up ranked 16th or something, there'll be a lot of legit beefs about Miles and his potential as a coach at LSU. But if LSU wins and ends up, say, 7th, how bad was their year all told? 1. USC (60) 0-0 1,619 2. Texas (4) 0-0 1,500 They did fine. 3. Tennessee (13) 0-0 1,376 Program in a tailspin, mass firings. Consensus biggest disappointment in 2005 CFB. 4. Michigan 0-0 1,329 A close second. This outfit doesn't recruit so much as it drafts, and they're 1 play away from 6-5. 5. LSU 0-0 1,291 6. Ohio State 0-0 1,205 Another pretty good job - 2 tough losses, but to real good teams. Beat their arch-rival, too. Keep in mind Tressel was a 1-AA hire when TOSU got him - think that would have flown last January? 7. Oklahoma 0-0 1,204 Door #3; 7-4, having lost to their biggest rival, and defense-less wonder UCLA. Oh, and don't forget Tulsa beating them on regional TV. Stoops was a genius 6 months ago - does this year's record make him an idiot like Miles? 8. Virginia Tech 0-0 1,184 Creamed by Miami in their biggest game of the year, and smoked on national TV by the worst FSU team in 20 years. And lost classlessly in the ACCCG by cheapshotting as soon as the game was out of reach. 9. Miami 0-0 1,142 10. Florida 0-0 1,080 Urban renewal was one money-hungry renegade bowl committee from Shreveport this year. 11. Iowa 0-0 1,011 A darkhorse for the B10 title, with a running game to go with emerging QB Tate and those stud LB's. Ferentz is everyone's lock to jump to the NFL. Ended up 7-4. 12. Louisville (1) 0-0 892 Another chic MNC pick. Got 41 pts dropped on them by USF, and have a walkon QB leading them to another meaningless bowl. 13. Georgia 0-0 869 14. Florida State 0-0 764 Backed into the ACCG, and is one gritty performance in that game from a 6-5 date with Boise State in the Humanitarian bowl. 15. Purdue 0-0 711 Maybe worse than all the others combined. All 11 defensive starters back. No TOSU, no Michigan, and they completely stunk up the joint. They should rent an apartment with Tennessee next semester. My point? If LSU ends up 10th or better this year, it'll have come a lot closer to its preseason expectations than a LOT of programs did.
Whether one disagrees or agrees with this Martin fella........his presentations are quite impressive. Welcome to the board. You'll never get tired.
I've read three or four of your posts now... quite informative, very long. .... which raises the question.... how come we never run out of ink when we type? Now Martin, if I was to print your four "papers", it would cost me probably one whole cartridge of HP black #14. I think they're, like, $39. ... just a thought.
Don't worry about the length Martin. These guys just have trouble focusing for more than 5 seconds. :thumb: Very good post. Even if we lose to Miami, that will give us a 10-3 record, not exactly the abysmal job some would make it seem. A loss will not make me lose faith.
Focus?... bofus? (love that joke) ok, ok... his stuff is pretty good... reminds me of one of my professors in college, but... pretty good. I repent.
