I was listening this morning to ESPN radio and Kiper said that originally JR was a late 1st round QB if he were to leave now but since the last 6 games and the Sugar Bowl, he believes if JR comes out Quinn and JR will be the top two overall picks in the draft. He said that he feels Russell would probably be wanted more by Oakland and Quinn would be wanted by Detroit.

He didn't say anything about either teams trading down especially since they both passed on Lienhart and Cutler last year.

He also said that if he were to rate all the QB's of both JR and SR's he would rate them 1. Quinn, 2. Russell 3. Brohm. Greenberg was having a lovefest for JR and really thought very highly of him. :geauxtige

One look at Detroit's track record says they pick Calvin Johnson of GT! Millen is still there, remember.

I really hope, for JR's sake, that Oakland doesn't pick him. That team is in shambles and he wouldn't thrive in such a pitiful environment in such a poor program.

Depends greatly on who they name as head coach to replace Shell. Either way though, they're in shambles as long as Davis exists. I would HATE to see Jamarcus under the "tutelidge" of Brooks!
Brady Quinn is reported to say he "wants" to play for Cleveland, which has the 3 or 4 pick, depending on a coin flip with Tampa. After Wednesday night, I don't think he'll get to choose who he gets to play for. Mel Kiper's often wrong this early on in the process. Wait until combines before you start taking his word for truth.

Hopefully Oakland makes it clear they WILL pick Jamarcus b4 he has to declare giving him a very good reason to stay.

Combines are only going to ratify JR's place among available QB's. He will have all the coaches and scouts drooling with his workouts.

The best hope we have is that JR doesnt want to play in Oakland even though I dont see that as enough of a factor to make him come back. That franchise has become the laughing stock of the league but he will be making millions. He wont have to stay there forever and he probably wouldnt start as a rookie anyway.

I agree with you. Lets hope that JR does not want to play in Oakland. Although for millions of dollars, I dont think it is going to matter where he plays. Lets PRAY he comes back to LSU for his senior season.

I don't claim to know this answer, just posing it as a legitamite question. How often (recently) has the first pick in the draft been a QB? It's not a given that a QB will be taken first, and even if it is a QB, it's not a given that it will be JR or Quinn. How many had Mario Williams going to the Texans with the first pick last year? And don't say "That only happens with the Texans", because the Saints (of old), Lions, and others have made similar ridiculous top 2 or 3 choices in the past.

The whole point is that the top three teams on the draft board are all desperatley in need of quarterbacks. Plus those teams need to do something to keep the fan base from blowing up the stadium. Drafting a high profile qb that high will get the fans excited again much more than using the pick on a left tackle even though their QB problem may be because the left tackle sucks.

Good point. Actually, the top four teams could use a QB, although Simms is OK when he's not getting pounded to the point of rupturing major organs. But Gruden is showing some interest in JR already, pre Sugar Bowl.
