Seems like he has had some success recently at USF and he should help recruiting but this isn't USF. Obviously Wisconsons new coach and Miles both saw something they liked so let's see what he can do. Hopefully he develope some of the many big time recuits we have stacked up on the DL.

I'm kind of excited to see how well Les Miles can put together a program. That means new hires. This name may not have the ring of Karl Dunbar, but how many do? Geaux Miles.

Sort of a sidenote about this hire...

A few weeks ago I noticed the name Brick Haley on this forum. I found that interesting because his name started circulating around a few circles right before Bama hired Turner. Haley wasn't interviewed much less talked to about the Bama opening but lo and behold a MS newspaper came out with an article about Haley "withdrawing his name..."

Then, as I said earlier, his name comes up again but this time it's about the opening you guys just had.

Where's there is smoke, there's fire...right? It seems a logical conclusion that Haley is putting his name out there. MSU just lost Kitchens to the Dallas Cowboys...unrest in Starkville to go along with the unrest about the recruiting year?

One thing I draw out of this hire is Lane spending time under Levitt. Levitt has been around some good defensive coaches in his career and that would be a great coach to be studying under for 9 seasons.

Well, it is rather encouraging to know that Wisconsin--another program with a fairly decent history for putting out solid D-lines--was interested perhaps solidifying what Miles knew about this guy was accurate...

Well, guess Lane's wife is happy. Their son will be playing at USL for the next four years so she gets to make the short drive to see him play.

Not a bad hire imo. A lot of good has come out of that USF program. It took quality coaches like Lane to get it to where it is today. Hopefully he's up to the task at a big-time college program!

I think the most important aspect of this hire is his ties to FL HS coaches.. dude's been down there for 9 years or whatever (and is from FL as well I think).

This past class, as good as it was, was very light on FL recruits, which is not surprising given that the majority of our current staff came from OK State, so you know they're gonna have more in the way of TX and LA ties. I think bringing in someone with significant FL ties will be huge for expanding our recruiting base.

I liked this about his profile........I know it's apples to oranges, but....

The formula has worked well from the inception of USF football in 1997, but especially in USF’s first two seasons of I-A football (2001-2002), when the Bulls ranked among the top five teams nationally in sacks. Over those two seasons, USF had 86 sacks (3.91 per game). In 2002, USF linemen accounted for 33 of the team’s 45 sacks, while their input was 32.5 of the 41 sacks in 2001. The linemen excelled again in 2003 with a combined 17.5 sacks, including a team-high six from Craig Kobel. Since the 2000 season, USF is ranked 17th nationally with a combined 161 sacks
