I am bit confused. McCain says this now at every major speech. But if I'm not mistaken didn't he tout the "new" bailout plan after it was rejected. Full of pork?
First, he is not yet president. Second, I think he may have overstated himself. Not all earmarks are bad. They have to be judged on an individual basis. I like Jindal's idea of setting guidlines for earmarks. McCain should do the same. Vetoing all earmarks is not realistic.
I agree with this. On top of that, if he were to veto everything with an earmark, he may prevent them from happening but certainly can't do anything about it as a senator without the blanket veto ability. But as Bengal pointed out, he may have overstated himself. I've heard him go after bills with pork but have not heard him say he will veto any bill with an earmark. Not saying he didn't say it because I don't know but that's crazy.
If he did, he would literally vote no on every bill. What would that do? As President you can make stuff like that happen but not as a senator.
I'm not saying it.. He is... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ybduc_0glk Watch any major speech. He will veto them and make those people famous that proposed them. Another link with 2 speeches: http://blog.indecision2008.com/2008...mccain-attempts-a-comeback-with-his-recycled/
So what are you getting at? That he shouldn't veto bills with earmarks or that he shouldn't wait to be president to do it.
Damn rex, I thought you had some actual real world knowledge/experience. Just an FYI, this is across the board with politicians. By the way, I still don't understand what he has said that he hasn't followed through with yet. Granted, I don't think he'll follow through with no earmarks, but I think he will try to cut them down. Doesn't really matter anyway, because the election is pretty much over.
He has a long record of speaking against earmarks and claims never to have created one. However, that is the way Congress does much business. He wouldn't be able to wave his arms and just make it happen. .
