On his show "I, Max", they had another one of these BCS debates, and Max said that LSU was THE national champion because they won the BCS national championship game. He also said the BCS worked in determining the national champion, but that he would make a requirement that you must win your conference in order to play in the BCS title game. My sentiments exactly.
Why did he leave ESPN? Around the Horn is my favorite show, as many of my friends. Do you all think that was as bad of a move that I do? Ive never seen his Fox show but I heard it sucks. I know its off topic but I figured I would add. Anyone know what time his new show is on?
It does suck......he tries to mimic his original show on ESPN, but much worse. And the show is all about him....which is a mistake. Around the Horn is all about the interaction between the host and the 4 goofball media writers, which is much more entertaining. I think Fox just presented him with a lot of money and since he was going to be the star of the show, it was just too much to pass up. Too bad he will be out of a job within months.
Not only should you win your conference but there should be a championship game in each conference. I like to think of it as CHAMPIONSHIP weekend and Saturday and Sunday the major conferences would square off and play thier championship games and then on say Monday they would announce the first bowl bids and then continue thru the week with invitations. LSU was punished last year for beating UGA twice which hurt our SOS. (OLD NEWS) USC would have suffered the same had they played one of thier pittiful conference teams and beat them twice. However the OU team was so far ahead in BCS (I don't think it was just SOS but the computer polls over us and usc) that even losing there championship game didn't hurt them enough to take them out. Both issues were wrong but also that was what the coaches signed off on so that's what it was. The system needed to be tweaked not torn apart like they did.
I don't think beating UGA twice hurt our SOS, it hurt our quality win bonus though for 2 reasons, one, you cannot use it twice even though we beat a good team twice. Second, when we beat UGA the second time they dropped in the BCS standings so we lost pionts on that. Personally I don't think the conference champion thing should be made a rule. Like the BCS guys said, there were way too many scenario's where they thought it would not be correct, such as an 8-3 team beating an undefeated team and then having that team with one loss being left out in favor of other teams with possibly 2 or 3 losses. A scenario would be an undefeated SEC team losing the SEC CG to a team like LSU in 2001 with 3 losses. Would they not be more deserving than a 2 loss Michigan team that won the big 10 regular season without a CG. The chances of a team having 3 losses being in the championship game would not be very probable but you know if they made it a rule it would happen within 2 years probably. Plus, what if the 2 best teams in the country were from the same conference, and one had beat the other for the only loss between the 2 of them and every other team in the country had at least 2 losses. Would they deserve to play each other again in the BCS NC game? And if you are thinking that couldn't happen I would bet it would if they passed that rule.
max Kellerman left ESPN in a contract dispute. he wanted somewhere in the 1 mil range which is absurd IMO. From what I heard up here in nyc, it was tough for ESPN to walk away from the table becasue Max was an integral part of ESPN's boxing coverage on friday nights. however, given the current state of boxing, maybe kellerman's loss was not that signficant for ESPN.
I think I read somewhere that ESPN was dropping Friday Night Fights, which would've cut Kellerman's work load significantly. His talent contract came up and they decided to let him go. I did hate that they dropped him, an arrogant New Yorker bozo, from Around the Horn and replaced him with...a YOUNGER arrogant New Yorker bozo.
I thought the replacement last week Zach Selwyn (the guy who finished 3rd in the Dream Job contest) did a good job. I hate lookin at the regular host.
