I guess we are about to find out what he is going to do. Whatever you decide Matt Best of luck to you.
I've heard rumors that he wants to go pro. I'm just wondering where this came from? All the talk was of dental school. Personally, I don't think it's wise of him to enter the NFL draft this year if that's what his goal is. I think it would be much better to play one more year and increase his stock for the NFL if that's his ultimate goal.
It might just be a financing move. Go to the NFL for a year or two. Save the majority of his salary and put it all toward dental school tuition and living expenses. Sounds like a great way to pay for dental school. I wish I would have had that opportunity to finance law school. I could have bought a decent house for what I paid in tuition and expenses.
Be a third string Qb for a few years making a couple of hundred thousand a year sounds like a great way to pay for dental school.
I sure hope he doens't skip his senior year for the NFL, especially if he is going for the prospect of quick money(not calling him greedy, but for school and stability). I think there is a strong possiblity that he won't get drafted. Even if he does get drafted, it will be very hard for him to make an NFL roster. Some teams are starting to consider only carrying 2 qb's on the 53 man roster.
I know this sounds a little crazy, but...Imagine if Mauck goes down with even a simple injury and he's out for a couple of games. One of the freshmen QB's comes in and shines. All of a sudden Mauck is riding the bench and looking forward to paying off student loans for the rest of his forseeable future. This scenario is very possible, not to mention the chance of a serious injury. I would love to see him come back and I think we would be a far better team if he did, but he needs to look out for himself and his interests. This guy has been great for LSU as a football player and as a person. If he thinks he'll get drafted he needs to go and we need to support him.
Mauck is rated as the 13th QB in this year's draft. That would mean he probably will not be drafted. He is too smart a guy to make a dumb move like this. They already have him ranked 3rd QB in the 2005 draft. I say he is coming back for his senior year.
I'd like to see Mr. Benson draft him late as a gesture of thanks for what he's done for the state. After all, when you're talking 3rd string (emergency) QB's, what has J.T. O'Sullivan really got that Matt doesn't, anyway?
