I think it is obvious the coaches have no confidence in Flynn as they have not given him a shot despite the qb. play of the last few games.

he may be a great player, but he did not show the fans much in the spring game. I agree that there is some reason that Saban keeps him off the field.

If it were't for his shoulder injury, I'm pretty sure he would have seen some action. He will have a shot to win the starting job next year. He was described as Matt Mauck, but faster and a better arm in the recruiting process. I'll take that. We shall see though, Russell has an off season to improve also. Should be interesting...

Well a few thoughts come to mind.

#1 Would be that MAYBE Saban saw something in Russell that he did not see in Flynn that he thought would have moved Russell to the number one spot at some point during the year.

#2 Is once Randall and Russell were landed on there are not enough snaps to go around and Flynn was positioned for the rest of the year while you try to get the starter and next in line ready for a game.

#3 I have to agree with the earlier post that Flynn looked bad in the spring game and that may have been the seperation Russell needed.

Look, it took Rohan a while before he elevated his game and look what happened. Give both Matt and Jamarcus the benefit of the doubt and another season b4 we write them off. Plenty of time for one or both of them to shine !

Matt Flynn had shoulder surgery, changed his release point, and then to top it all off, he had a stomach virus and missed some time in fall camp...

Couple that with the simple fact that the results from the last attempt to prepare 3 quarterbacks in fall camp were pretty atrocious.

1-7 in the conference, save for a 36-10 season ending victory over Arkansas that cost the DiNardon't his job.

You can't prepare three QB's in one fall camp. It is impossible to get any one more reps than the other, and to give them enough reps to prepare equally, either...Two is tough...One is ideal.

that seems to be the train of thought yet Tennessee has 4 potential qbs. Clausen looks as good or better than any of our starters and I would guess the other Leak would as well so while there is some truth to getting 3 QB's ready the fact Flynn hasn't sniffed the field minus a play is quite perplexing.

As bad as the qb play of the first 2 have been, I think there is a strong case MF should have been given more of an opportunity. No way he woulda been much worse if at all. its relatively impossible.

  10. True statement. As a matter of fact, the only qb that we have had in recent memory that came in and started ballin from the start was Herb. Josh, Ro, MM all started poorly but lit it up later. These guys will come around, probably sometime next year.
